That's right, this year's batch of freshman includes an exchange student! @plumbbobtoggle's lovely sim Lauren Dar Hallman has arrived from another dimension (and . . . the future????) and she'll be joining the Owl Creek co-eds for the next four years! Maybe even for longer than that, if she decides to stick around.

Lauren is a straight A student, an amateur astronomer, and a former spelling bee champ.

No problemo! As long as you don’t look toooo closely at the intersecting books it’s perfect hahaha. You could probably do something cool by using other cheats to place a few of these really close together as well! And I’m pretty sure there are empty versions with slots too, as you may have seen by now. :)

LOL Glad you enjoyed my pain!! This family is definitely an adventure to play! I love playing family Sims and checking out the genetic inheritances, and how them aging up and growing is always so dynamic. But this is like that on steroids. Extreme Family Simming!

Having inspiration sources is a must for me like 80% of the time! Either other Simmers, or real life. I subscribe to Houzz emails and just this morning I got one that really inspired me to open my game! I’ve got a few families who I had to move into new homes, but I just plunked a phone in and left it unfurnished cause I wasn’t feeling inspired yet. Today might be the day for something to get started!

I'm glad! I wasn't deliberately trying to gaslight y'all or anything; I sort of hoped it would be a fun thing like 'oh, Hank has a new SO every week'. Hopelessly romantic but in a serial way, you know?

I do hope Edie is endgame, tho! I think she's 'committed but non-monogamous' but we'll see how the 'ask for open relationship' mod works this time.

That was a cool thing for me learn about Japanese but it’s okay to use English grammar on words borrowed into English. You can use an uncountable noun (say, espresso) as countable to mean “one container of” (“An espresso, please”) and then form the plural the English way (by adding -s), not the way the originating language would uses (“Two espressos” not “Two espressi” as per the Italian grammar).

What you are saying makes sense, don't get me wrong, but I suppose it bothers me because Japanese is my third language and it just sounds wrong when the 's' is added, even when borrowed.

I'm just picky I suppose. I'm the same with my native language. English-speaking countries say 'Boers' for the white Afrikaans South Africans from the Boer War, and I have to grit my teeth when people here in Australia say it because the plural of 'Boer' is 'Boere' not 'Boers'. 

Eh, each to their own. People can still say 'animes' or 'mangas' if it doesn't bother them. It just sounds weird to me. And I guess I just can't wrap my head around the need to add the 's'. I'm a language student, I tend to get fussy over silly little things like this when I really shouldn't have to. Blame my perfectionism. XD

Ahh I got tagged in the asky-questiony-meme thing by esotheria-sims and plumbbobtoggle and I'm going to be mega lame and not come up with new questions or tag people because that's scary but here are my answers under the cut :O

esotheria-sims' questions:

In terms of aesthetics only, which historical period would you like to visit and why?

I'd love to visit the early 1900s, it just seems like there was so much going on and changing in art and fashion and architecture and technology and EVERYTHING and I think it would be awesome.

What’s your favorite (non-anime) cartoon character?

Non anime makes this HARDDD because Sailor Moon was my LIFE as a preteen... but the Powerpuff Girls probably.

What’s a word of your native language you really like? Either because of the way it sounds or for its meaning.

I have a little book up in a cupboard where I used to write down words I liked, I'm a total word nerd. I'm a native English speaker, and I'm going to have to go with "serenity" for a number of reasons.

What was the last dream you can remember? 

I tend to have a lot of dreams about ending up in the classroom completely unprepared to teach a lesson, no photocopying done, no technology working, and the kids just sitting there looking at me blankly while I try and work out what I'm supposed to be doing and flollop around manically pulling things out of drawers and cupboards.

Do you have an embarrassing nickname that your friends/family like to call you by? If so, which one?

My dad called me Big Ears when I was little, but no one calls me that any more. My ears look regular-sized now and have done for years :)

What was the last thing you were pissed off about?

Frozen. Given the fact that everyone I know who's seen it raved about it, when I finally sat down to watch it the other night despite my feminist objections, I wasn't expecting it to be a severely underwhelming movie in plot and character-development terms.

Do you have any unofficial scientific/conspiracy theory you genuinely believe in? 

Not really :D

How do you usually dress? Got a particular style?

I'm a firm believer in the idea that black goes with everything, especially more black. Other than that, I wear jeans and avoid closed shoes whenever I can get away with it!

Are you a movie buff? What’s your favorite genre?

I LOVE movies. Lots of movies. Favourite genres include superhero movies, eighties movies (especially the ones directed by John Hughes) really good kids movies, movies with lots of explosions, classic action movies and the occasional chick flick. I'm a huge nerd.

What’s your dream job?

Teaching! I'm lucky enough to get to do what I love.

How do you eat your grapefruits?

I don't eat grapefruits. I'm not a huge fruit eater, much prefer veggies.

What’s the weather like where you are?

It's the beginning of autumn, cold crisp mornings and bright blue days interspersed with cozy rainy days and the trees are all turning golden and I'm kind of loving the weather at the minute.

Have you ever left the theater before the movie was over?

Favorite baby animal?

Baby pandas, hands down.

Where did they tell you humans came from in Biology at school?

Funny story, I'm a Christian homeschool victim. So, cabbage patch?

I have lots of different favourites, but a posh English accent is probably my absolute.

Generally I don't. People talk to me and are amazed by the things I have no idea are going on in the world.

What’s the latest generation you’ve ever reached with a sim family?

Gen 4 I think. Barring disaster, I'm going to beat that record shortly with my Libris ISBI. Touch wood.

Favorite Bon Voyage vacation destination?

Three Lakes.

If you could only keep one hack in your game, what would it be?

Do you see yourself stopping playing the Sims 2 and if so, why?

I don't know what the future holds! Over the years I've gone through stages where I've played it less and stages where I played it more, but inspiration from the community always reels me back in. I guess if the Sims 2 online community died off that might be a factor in me packing it in.
