why was the fact that big three kids are no big deal in camp jupiter? like, camp half blood made a whole big deal about it and then with nico, hazel, jason, and percy, nobody cared?? like was that just a plot hole or did they really just not gaf

like everyone seemed so unfazed that percy was a son of neptune. they did not care at all. so did they not have the thing where the big three swore off having kids? yes ik that percy told the gods to knock it off with that rule but percy is obviously older than that😭

so was it a plot hole or just the roman’s being chill??

Do you think Hades/Pluto gives his children protection from monsters?

What first made me think that is that part in SON when Hazel flashbacks to Pluto visiting her mother and telling her that if they go to Alaska they'll be out of his protection. Which implies that he already was protecting them up until now.

And come to think of it...we know about Hazel's childhood. We know she was ostracized and bullied by everyone she knew except Sammy. We know she was always finding cursed jewels just by walking down the street. We know her mother was rumored to be a witch.

Not once is there a mention of any monsters. Not even any strange incidents that could be the Mist covering it up. Hazel never mentions seeing any people with one eye, or creatures with wings, or anything. Nothing ever tries to kill her. She saw nothing like this until she got to Alaska. And considering monsters were coming after Percy by the time he was like six, Hazel making it to her thirteenth birthday without a single unusual occurrence (except, you know, the curse) is quite extraordinary - Percy mandated the thirteenth birthday as the limit for demigods to be in camp and claimed because even for ordinary demigods is it risky to be out in the mortal world once they hit puberty, let alone a daughter of one of the Big Three.

We don't know as much about Bianca and Nico's childhood as we do about Hazel's, but there is that one flashback scene in TLO. It's hard enough to keep one child of the Big Three alive in the mortal world, let alone two, and if her kids were regularly being attacked by monsters Maria probably wouldn't have been so quick to dismiss Hades' offer of shelter in the Underworld. It seems that monster attacks weren't a problem for the di Angelos.

So, do you think Hades/Pluto protects his kids in the mortal world?

Well, up until the di Angelos got out of the Lotus Hotel and a manticore tried to kidnap them, I guess.

I’ll assume he does bc supposedly the mediterranean is like shitfull of monsters and while venice is in the adriatic, that’s still part of the region and yet nothing happened to them.. what’s more, the massive issue they had was a god, not monsters (and what’s even more, given how easy to find they were, everybody up in olympus knew about these two little fellas)

also, as you say, maria’s always shown in a good light as a mother, which means if she’d been offered protection for her children and the kids had been constantly attacked, then she’d have thought about it twice ((tbf tho sally did reject camp despite loving percy but that’s for another day))

as for hazel, I think pluto even says that if they move to alaska he won’t be able to protect them anymore, and marie get’s pissed off bc she considers protection to be more of like a child-support thing than literal fending-off-monsters

Thinking about Abraham and Isaac in relation to Hazel and Bianca’s relationship to Pluto/Hades…. Thinking about the urge to ask your parent why they would let you suffer such a cruel fate if they knew they could prevent it. Thinking about him not having any other choice, being bound to fate, and knowing he could have saved them if he truly needed to all the same. Thinking about him saying that Bianca was his favourite, him complimenting Hazel on her being his daughter, and leaving them both when the time came. Offered up like lambs to slaughter as they willed themselves to stay alive

thinking about what would happen if the big three were dismantled and their kids lost their powers. because you know what? i think they would all prefer it, to cut ties with their godly side

percy has never wanted to be a half blood. his parentage was in part responsible for him and sally dealing with an abusive parent/partner for years. he is aware of his position as the gods pawn and he despises it

jasons parentage forced him to be abandoned as a baby to wolves and he was torn between camps, people looking up to him as a son of jupiter/zeus always, which he despised. and zeus let jason die because jason critiqued him

thalia died for zeus. she lost her mother because of him. she lost her brother twice, zeus refusing to preserve him as he preserved her. she joined the hunters to get away from the prophecy directed at her for being a child of zeus

hazel died once. the curse that came with her powers continues to haunt her as it will forever. she lost all familiarity because she was the one born powerful enough to take down gaea and despite being a child of pluto she still ended up in asphodel

biancas mother was killed because bianca and nico were children of hades. bianca joined the hunters and died because of the responsibility she was left with because hades dealt with their situation stupidly

nicos mother was killed because of hades. he was stuck in a casino for 70 years because of hades. he was abandoned by bianca because hades left bianca to care for him by herself while she was still growing up herself. nico felt abandoned and outcasted for years because of his parentage

sure, if they lost their powers they would lose a part of themselves. but i truly doubt any of them would be truly mad. relieved at the fact they were finally free is a much better description

whenever i think about nico having a black chb cabin 13 shirt, i just keep imagining hades telling a zombie servant to custom buy it after nico visits one day in that horrible orange shirt. the next week, nico is just sitting on his bunk shuffling his mythomagic cards and hell opens up, and a skeleton hand pops up giving him a cardboard box. inside the box is just custom made cabin 13 swag. some of the clothes is for hazel, and she just wears it under her toga despite SPQR not even having cabins, but no one can say otherwise cause she's praetor. there was probably a 'viva la pluto' shirt too but neither of them took it out the box :(

Hades/Pluto Demigods Headcanons

In  honour of Nico’s birthday, I thought I would make a post about Hades and Pluto power hc’s

They tend towards extremes— with extremely loyal or they’ll betray everyone around them, they’re either the weakest or the strongest in the room, etc.

They always seem to have luck with finding money. Like, if you walk down the street with them, they will end up finding over 100 dollars on a good day. No matter what, they tend towards gathering money

All of them have one animal that they really love and have a strong connection to (for Hazel this is horses, for Nico it’s cats), and they can’t really stand other kinds of animals, other than Hades/Pluto’s sacred animals

They all have an affinity for linguistics— most languages come very easy to Hades/Pluto’s kids, but not all of them discover this or really care for linguistics

They hate wearing shoes just as much as Poseidon/Neptune kids— they can feel the earth, tectonic plates, gems, and bones underneath them and feel more connected to the world around them. The world feels more muffled without shoes on

Some of them are able to see ghosts and spirits in the mortal world (they’re seances)

They all like flowers and plants, even though a lot of them end up killing them subconsciously

They can push an aura of calm into grieving people or people when they’re panicking 

They are often born into royalty or families of high stature

Shockingly enough, nine out of ten Hades/Pluto kids are nomads. It’s not just a Nico thing. Since they all feel kind of ostracized in both the demigod and mortal circles, they’ll travel around and speak to gods of different pantheons and stuff

Hades makes the palace accessible to all of them if he can, so they can come if they have any issues or need help. Usually his kids only come in emergencies, but then there are the Nico’s who show up to remind him to pay his fucking child support

They aren’t actually supposed to shadow travel. Hades can hardly do it, and he has his Helm of Darkness to help absorb the shadows out of him. They are able to do it, but they shouldn’t unless it’s an emergency since it causes them to fall apart at the molecular level

They tend to know more than people think they do, for the main reason that they talk to people on the outskirts and to different pantheons and shit. They do their research, they just don’t share it unless they have to

They all have a pretty good relationship with Zagreus. Everyone loves the guy, he loves them and helps them out, he’s a great big brother and doesn’t get enough love

The other Underworld Deities help them out when they have to, but aren’t super friendly to them (the really minor ones, that is). Hypnos, Mnemosyne, Thanatos, and Hecate fucking love those kids. It’s mostly just Melinoe and Macaria that don’t love Hades/Pluto’s other kids. Melinoe is the only one that actively fucks with them, tho

For some reason they’ve all met Satan at some point. He’s actually a pretty cool guy to hang with. He hates Nazis and fascists. He’s the ultimate Punk Rocker

Some of them have been blessed individually by Deities other than Hades. Some get blessed by Hecate (like Hazel), others by Hypnos (like Nico), all of them by Thanatos (he fucking loves those death kids, they’re his favourite people)

All of their families have been favourites of (or blessed by) some of the gods. The Levesque’s were blessed by Hecate and Oya (the Yoruba goddess of storms and lightning— she was an unbeatable warrior). The di Angelo’s we’re blessed by Acadia (Italian goddess of witchcraft), Dionysus (why do you think he liked Nico so much?), and Nyx

They all have some kind of talent in art. Bianca was an amazing photographer, Hazel is an amazing painter, and Nico is an amazing musician

They’re all fans of fancy things. Most people do like fancy things, but Hades/Pluto kids are obsessed with their shit looking fancy. Not so much their clothes, but their homes are decorated with all this fancy looking stuff (some of it was gifts from their father, some bought with money they found, some of it is dollar store stuff they found that looked fancy as fuck so they got it). Don’t get me wrong, they’re all always prepared to leave in the middle of the night, and they would be fine with having nothing more than the clothes on their back. They would still be fine. But you bet your ass that they like having fancy and shiny stuff when they get the chance
