Hi!! So recently, I've been questioning this BD AU I want to make and have some questions. Can my Steven be a female and can she have a different race? Can she slso be taller with a different body type? The thing is, I've seen so many AU's that look like Steven and I feel like if I make something different, people won't like mines. What should I do?

I’m not sure what has you guys so on edge about writing fanfiction. Is there a fanfiction police force I don’t know about lurking around the corner? Is the fanfic KGB dragging writers out of their homes in the middle of the night for not adhering to the unwritten fanfic code of ‘Thou Must Not Change Too Many Details About A Character In An AU’? 

 Like, trust me, I KNOW about fanfic history and the Anne Rice thing and the Great Purge of Livejournal and etc. I’ve been there, lived through that. But some of these current worries are a little bit out of left field. 

Who is out there telling you guys you CAN’T do these things? 

(Who am I inviting to the back of the Denny’s parking lot to exchange gentle fists with?) 

OF COURSE you can change stuff about a character. 

The whole point of fanfiction - any type, AU or not - is that YOU are writing it. (It should be called an A YOU! ahahahaaha ok I’m done.) 

It’s taking the story and giving it new life. It’s a long forgotten oral tradition of transforming works through the mouths of different authors. You take a tapestry and re-do it. You unwind the cords you want and knit them into something new, something that is unique to yOU. 

Look, this is the ONLY thing you need when writing an AU:

Take this sign! Use it wisely. And often.

Q: But what if people won’t like my AU?

So what? Who are you, the court jester? Do you live to entertain? Are you gonna be beheaded for not giving your audience precisely what they want? 

I didn’t think so.

People have a right to not enjoy your story. Guess what - many people won’t! Many of them will turn away and never visit again. And what of it? That’s what happens with ANY story. That’s not a function of it being an AU, that’s a function of human beings having preferences and prejudices and opinions. They are entitled to those opinions - we NEED people to be critical of work on the whole in order to make BETTER stories, eventually.

But that’s not something that has to stop you. Just do your thing. That’s your only objective. :) Tell YOUR story.

Why do people call corrupt!Steven "worm"?

the corrupted steven theory was theorized really early on - like 2,3 days after the theme song dropped? and with the hype and all, i think the legs were overlooked, and to give the creature an easier name, theories mostly referred to it as worm or wormy boi!! (affectionately named by @/novantinuum)

Also, I wouldn’t personally distribute leaks anyways. Talk about them, sure. But the people who initially leak things are rude and shouldn’t be doing that.

Can I just say I love your headcanon on Shy Rose and Pink? It's way better than the show's potential and I think it's really smart. And there were like 1000+ Rose Quartzes. Its a common feature for them to have curly hair, their skin complexion is varied, and there's only like 10-20 places on your body to put a gem. Maybe it was a funny coincidence?

oh thank you, i dont know how much of these are actual headcanon thoughts on it i just think if you ever have an issue with how something is written or done, you dont just complain about that. you work with it to give something to help actually fix the perceived problem you have with it 

like yeah shy rose was made by the writers for a one use purpose but when they dont usually do that, it really stands out and kind of feels lackluster 

i know they just want to put it to a funny coincidence but it just kind of doesnt feel right when the subject is of a character whos that very important to so many people and have baggage to

a funny coincidence of a doppleganger is like, what a lot of older very campy shows had these evil twin dopplegangers that werent even like related to the character a good chunk of the time or even if, just a totally random stranger doppleganger for like some funny chance gets mistaken as the friend and we spend a whole episode with them and the rug gets pulled out underneath us like, ‘yeah i felt too awkward to correct you guys, you seemed so nice, and we were already in the car…’ etc etc in the last few minutes or something and then a spiderman meme moment happens at the end of the episode or just the doppleganger and the original just missing eachother by mere moments of walking in and out of different rooms. 

i say theres a time and place for coincidences in writing, writing is very purposeful, not all the times and a lot of things can be looped back around to fit into place to make it ‘more structurally sound’ like there were places with pink and pearl and the rose disguise there definitely could have been more built onto it if they wanted, reasonings, etc etc but all our canon info on why pearl decided that was just to have a form that was close enough to a quartz for pink to shapeshift into and that was it, no reasoning of her thinking of another quartz she may have bumped into that could fit the bill for a quick disguise day and no more, yadda yadda,

I am so SO sorry for having to deal with this. Personally, I agree with you, and I think these anons are really brainless. You shouldn't have to read all these awful people calling you stupid because you're not. You're extremely intelligent and I hope one day, these people get what they deserve. Aw, it’s alright. Honestly, I grew up in a pretty hellish environment, so anon hate doesn’t bother me much. If someone says something truly awful, or if they don’t have anything worth arguing, I just delete their comment and move on. I only respond to stuff that I feel I can emotionally handle.
