After the events of TFATWS, Bucky seeks to repay is debts to Wakanda. Ayo accepts his offer and Bucky is hired for clandestine operations and investigative work under Nakia for the kingdom. Nakia discovers that a possible child of a deceased War Dog is in an underground South African lab and sends Bucky to investigate. There, he discovers an ex-SHIELD/HYDRA aligned research project on individuals born with their powers.
Bucky takes in the girl he finds and it is agreed for her to be raised between the US and Wakanda due to her bonded attachment to him. After a year living in the Wilson-Barnes household, Zinhle reports a major psychic disturbance linking back to the lab. Bucky is sent again to investigate and runs into Yelena who to investigating the same lab network after receiving a tip of rumor of the return of the Red Room as they heard of missing girls with supernatural capabilities. The trail leads them to a lab in Indiana, where they encounter 011 who uses her gate opening abilities to send Bucky into another dimension. This dimension just happens to be hosting a few familiar faces in an unfamiliar city called Gotham.
In the commotion, Yelena is taken hostage and forced to work make a deal for her life in working for Valentina. Val knows with no body, an explanation for a missing super soldier, famously associated with Captain America, would raise to many eyebrows, so she asks for her connects to employ a shapeshifter to stall while they try to find how 011 opened the gate and where she sent him. . .
