I’m still a fan of your writing but am worried about your ai usage and positivity towards it. Please look up how awful ai is ecologically. It also steals art and writing from real humans’ works, so I sure hope you aren’t using it for your fics already or plan on it. While it’s fun to mess around with, overall, not good for anything.
Hello. I completely understand your concern, and I think it’s time I clarify some things. I have added some red text to some of the writing, to help sum up everything for anyone trying to skim this. Red text is the main line, the white text is the extra filler.
1: I do not like AI. I don’t believe AI should be used to replace writers/artists, regardless of how long it takes for a studio to write/draw their ideas. Original ideas, original drawings, original writing, and original media in general, should always be prioritized over AI. So the fact that big corporations are using it so much? Atrocious. Despicable.
2: A lot of my college peers use AI to both write their assignments, and find test answers mid-exams. I firmly believe that AI should never be used to cheat on tests, or write assignments. The point of those tests and assignments is to provide school scores authentically to ensure fairness for all. AI should be treated as a form of cheating and plagiarism. Cause trust me, getting a low mark using original writing is better, than getting a high mark kicked off your report card because of a breach of Academic Integrity. Plagiarism is a crime that could destroy your writing career...And I am lawfully evil.
3: 95% of the time, I do not use AI to write my fanfictions. I have only ever used AI a few times in my life. One AI usage wasn't even fanfic-related. I was told by my parents to run my Resume through CoPilot to reformat my resume so I have better chances of getting a job. I will admit I have used Character.AI in my private time. But that has only been used to play as my D&D characters to practice character-building and improving my writing. All in all, I used AI only 2 times for writing purposes. The most recent time was when I took an idea that AI came up with, and I created an original fanfiction out of it. My thought process was to treat the AI's idea as a baseline reference...Or rather, a fanfic prompt. This fanfiction was called A Sticky, Strange Situation, and all that information is explained there. But the first time I used ever used AI, was back in 2022 for a personal experiment. With a bit of help from a friend, I tried telling AI to write me a tickle fanfiction about My Little Pony based on my writing. This fanfiction was For Cupcakes and Giggles. Now, if you read that fanfiction, you’ll notice that the AI had actually plagiarized a story that came out around the same time. AI stole some quotes and general story structure, and adjusted the writing to fit the narrative the AI was ordered to make. Now you’re probably wondering: Why did Pocket do that? Why write a fanfiction with AI? I only did it to see if an AI fanfiction would do better view-wise, than my original fics. This idea was never to determine if I was going to use AI for the future. It was a 1-time scientific experiment...Where regardless of the outcome, I vowed I would keep my writing original. Sure enough, after putting up that fanfiction, I got more likes and reblogs on that fanfic in the first couple hours, than I had gotten on a lot of my original fics at the time. Which...Led me to make a meme using this picture:
I cannot find the specific post (and trust me, I've spent at least an hour trying to find it), but I remember how I felt posting that meme. So...Needless to say, I was pissed. It felt like all my years of hard work with (at the time) little reactions in return, was pointless. Why bother writing at all, when AI Pocket can write something better? So...It was a bit of a punch in the gut at the time, but I told myself that I will never resort to AI so long as I'm alive.
I guess it comes down to this:
Will Pocket use AI to write fanfictions? NO.
Will Pocket use AI to adjust their grammar? NO.
Lastly, will Pocket use AI to do really dumb shit mainly on their own time? YES. I have used Character AI in the past, but I only use it as a writing exercise to keep up the creativity and skills.
