Why do you think Harrison has said he doesn't care if Han shot first? As involved as he is in the dialogue and overall movie making process it seems that he would be very attuned to that action being in or out of character. Thanks, @thecarrisonfiles
Hi @thecarrisonfiles good question. That one is hard since only Harrison can truly answer such a question… Let’s see what we do know about the man already that might help…
1) He has made it very clear he is not nostalgic (had to read his own bio before an interview about his entire career and life - that wasn’t a joke)
2) Is painstaking about his acting, using the script he is given as a base….Feels the most comfortable when he can talk it out with his director, ask questions, and make tons of notes in the margins of his scripts.
3) Does not care about anything external of the script with his characters - I.E - Could care less about who would win in a fight of Han Solo vs Indiana Jones. He just doesn’t care about that. It does not see these are worth wild (To him) discussions.
… and the last one may be the key to all this. As an actor he uses what is written on the page and comes up with ideas and backstory for the moment’s he is acting… and leaves it there. He seems to have no interest in exploring a character when he’s done with them. The change that lead to the question ” who shot first” happened after he was done with the role. He doesn’t need to know that info - nor does he care because well… he doesn’t need to know it to to do his job. I bet if the question came up in a script he had to act, that would be different. His interest and love has always been acting. He has always said … all he wants to do is act. He isn’t a writer and he has expressed that he has interest in directing. The whole debate over these things that fans like us like to debate - eludes him. He has moved on. And in other terms.. based on all the above… odds are he is sick of being asked a question he has no interest in for well… 30 odd years. He has seemed to mellowed lately, and maybe now it is about that it doesn’t matter what he thinks - it matters what “you” think.
