Inkstay Interview April Edition: Internalearthquake
1. How long have you been writing?
I have been writing with a creative touch since June 1, 2019.
2. What do read in your free time?
I spend most of my time reading scientific research articles since I work in the field. However, I also enjoy B.A. Paris’ thrillers, Agatha Christie’s mysteries, animal-related stories, and nonfiction.
3. What (if any) projects are you working on?
I am illustrating some of my poems and am learning to compose music for some of my lyrics. I plan to publish a poetry collection soon, and I hope one day I can share my lyrics/music with vocalists.
4. Have you ever read your work aloud for an audience? (any form)
I have not read my work aloud for any audience since I feel like I’m still new to this realm and have much to improve upon until I can share it at that level. However, someone else has read one of my poems to their book club (with my permission).
5. Do you have a favorite place to write?
I do not have a favorite place to write, but the setting I prefer is late at night in the dark.
6. Are there any reoccurring themes in your writing? What? Why?
Most of my writing is storytelling. Some themes include perspectives of mental illness, abuse, and death, but I write lighter, uplifting pieces on human nature too. The human brain/mind is a black box, and as a scientific writer and a creative writer, I have two distinct personas that I can wear to shed light and understanding on what makes us behave the way we do.
7. What inspired you to start writing creatively, since you know exactly the date, I suspect something specific triggered this?
I started writing then because I was at a transitioning point in life and was at a loss on how to accept it and move on, which led to me expressing it in writing. It was an awful piece, but the process was enlightening, so I continued to write.
8 .What makes the late night/dark your preferred writing setting?
I’m not entirely sure. I guess I associate daytime with work, social obligations, running errands, et cetera. Nighttime is when I can focus on the things I want to do without interruption.
9. Any lasting impression you would like to leave with the readers?
I have never considered myself particularly artsy, and I never imagined myself writing to the extent that I do. We all have the creativity and potential to share our thoughts and feelings via the arts, and I hope more people realize that and try it. Lastly, I want to thank the @inkstay staff for this opportunity. Thank you so much for your dedication to masterful writing.
