Agaricus bisporus
They tell me when I die,
I will not stay buried for long.
Even caskets are made of wood,
splintering beneath the damp rot
and sagging with weight.
Beckoned by an endless death,
they will grow from my body,
worming their way through decaying
matter and above the soil,
carting me from spore to spore
until I become them.
When the sound of dirt
hitting another body echoes
through the woods,
they will carry me onwards
to eat another acre.
By that point, I will be
indistinguishable from soil.
Look--already they begin
their inexorable march.
Soon I will be large enough
to swallow a forest.
