Day 10: #mayvinylchallenge : Reminds You Of Your Family | Parent | An Heirloom There are many records that remind me of my parents, Warren and Bernadine. But the two presented here are indicative of each respectively: 🔺️ Sly and the Family Stone - Stand! [1969] An artistic high point, Stand was a critical and commercial success for the San Francisco band. Featuring hits like the "I Want To Take You Higher", "Everyday People" and the title track, the album as a whole has ZERO weak points. Top to bottom, an amazing record. This album reminds me of my dad, with it being among his favorites. The kind of record I've seen him know a vast majority of the lyrics to. When he noticed me going through the records as a child, it might have even been recommended. 🔺️ The Pointer Sisters - Break Out [1983] Released after the success of the trio's single "I'm So Excited", the original '83 version of the album doesn't contain it, and that is the one I recall. Featuring era-laden electro-dance jams like "Jump", "Neutron Dance" and the ultra-too-dopeness of "Automatic", "Break Out" was the Pointer Sisters at their commercial peak. This reminds me of my mom based on the fact that nine times out of ten, it was her bringing the records into the house. I recall when this album came into the house around early '84. Along with other records in family history, it was her bringing them in. And that's huge. Happy Mother's Day to All the Mothers Out There! Good Morning and Happy Monday. Today I will be talking about a costume/designer who is not really known to a wider audience but was a hidden talent. I introduce to you Ms. Ola Hudson (October 12, 1946 – June 5, 2009). Ms. Ola Hudson was a young vibrant energy and born with many talents, she studied dance with the Lester Horton School of Modern Dance and with Bella Lewitzsky and Linda Gold in Los Angeles. She would continue honing her skills at the Institute of Dance in Paris, Switzerland’s Le Loft, and The Max Rivers School in London and where she would meet her husband Anthony Hudson an album cover artist. They would give birth two sons; Saul aka guitarist Slash of the rock group Guns n Roses and Albion. Their marriage wasn’t a success, Ola reinvented herself and she became a costumier to the stars. During the 1970’s when album covers and musicians were fashionable and artistic. Ola Hudson had her hand in designing and styling for icons John Lennon, David Bowie, The Pointer Sisters, Ringo Starr and Diana Ross. She worked with Bowie and designed the costumes for his Isolar Tour and his film ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’. She would also open up her own on boutique on Sunset Strip called ‘Skitzo’. Hudson would continue her career designing for major retailers such as Henri Bendels, Fred Segal, Neiman Marcus and Maxfield Blu. Ms. Ola Hudson is a woman that did not remain in one lane, she did what her heart desired and manifested her dream in all artforms. #blackhistorymonthfacts #blackhistorymonthfactoftheday #blackwoman #blackshero #blackexcellence #blackcostumier #blackdesigners #blackownbusiness #olahudson #slash #davidbowie #dianaross #pointersisters #ringostarr https://www.instagram.com/p/BtvqpzaHElc/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=y1q2an7g8j7x
