Here’s a deck that has made the rounds in Pokemon communities around the world, along with all the incredible merch that they make. Pokebox creates incredible products of Pokemon, and one such thing they’ve made is a Pokemon deck. This particular deck is the 3nd (!!??) and current iteration of the Pokemon Tarot that they created, not including the original majors-only set they put out of this current version. It’s 78 cards, fully illustrated, plus one blank card. The cards are something like 400gsm paper with ultra-smooth plastic finish and UV printing on the backs of the cards, foil on the faces of all the cards. The cards are enormous and the box is huge and rigid. I posted a picture of a carved wooden box that Pokebox currently has on pre-order, because it’s just absolutely amazing and is worth noting that it’s a magical thing you can buy separately of the deck and fits the deck itself. I also put one of the cards next to a standard sized tarot card for comparison (2.75″x4.75″).
If you’re a fan of Pokemon and tarot, this deck is something you really don’t want to pass by. The deck is fairly readable without prior knowledge of Pokemon, but it definitely is more beneficial if you do know. I think if you have knowledge not only of Pokemon themselves, but also Pokemon dispositions, their relationships to eachother within the canon, and knowledge of events within the show or games, you’ll find the symbolism in this deck runs far deeper than any regular fan tarot.
The deck has been in regular stock for the past year, but it does sell out and most of Pokebox’s merch is a limited time sort of deal. The previous versions of the deck were available through the Comic World Taiwan and South Korea conventions many years ago and are no longer in print.
