So, I used to be a pokémon. I no longer identify this way. I’m now at a place where I don’t feel like a pokémon anymore but I don’t really feel like an otherhuman from the Pokémon World either. Yet, I still feel this strong, alterfictional connection to said world and its inhabitants.
Occasionally, I think about practices like dæmonism and dragonwork and wonder if someone’s tried to do something similar with Pokémon training. For as long as I can remember, there’s been people who wish pokémon were real and that they could become trainers or at least had a partner pokémon to share their life with based on the intimate bonds they see within Pokémon media.
For a couple of weeks now, I’ve been trying to form a volcarona in headspace. Sometimes, it sticks. Sometimes, it doesn’t. I suppose part of the difficulty comes with the fact that Volcarona is a fully evolved and strong pokémon. A larvesta doesn’t evolve until Level 59. Even so, I think it’s still trying to stick because this is the ideal partner pokémon I have in mind if I were a trainer.
Being a dæmian myself, these trials are different from what it was like with forming internal dialogue between Olumide and I as well as helping Olumide with form-finding. This thoughtform is not an inner voice given shape or an extension of myself, but everything that a partner pokémon is meant to represent. Which is kind of hard to articulate because it’s such a specific concept in fiction that only makes sense in the scope of its source and the ongoing mythos around trainers and pokémon, but I’ll figure it out eventually.
Perhaps, I need to start at the first stage. Maybe with an egg or a larvesta? I’ve also been checking out The World of Pokémon’s page to get a feel for the species from a specbio/zoology perspective. Either way, I want to look into this further as a personal experience.
