I'm writing a butch4butch polyam romance novel

Here are the major beats of the novel so far. DM your questions or ideas please! What do you want to see in this book? Help me brainstorm! (Spoilers ahead)

A stone butch bottom (Ren) meets a butch4butch couple (Taylor and Alex) at a kink party in their honeymoon vacation city. They hit it off, have a great night, and go their separate ways.

That is, until Ren boards their flight home, and sees Taylor and Alex sitting in their row.

The three of them chat about safe for work things on the flight, learning that Alex is a lawyer and Taylor owns the local queer indie bookstore. Ren is a tattoo artist and offers to do a Friday the 13th bookish-themed tattoo popup at the store.

They flirt at the tattoo pop-up, and when the door locks and the blinds are closed, things get steamy in the bookstore.

Ren wakes and drafts a text to Taylor and Alex, asking them on a date. They're about to send it when they get a text from a friend asking, "Is this you?"

It's a TikTok of Ren, Taylor, and Alex flirting at the pop-up, tagged #bookstorethrouple, and it's blowing up with views and comments about how hot the three of them are. And, of course, homophobic comments about butches, discourse about the hygiene of tattooing in a bookstore, and worst of all, discourse about polyamory and monogamy.

Mixed feelings abound about the video, but they're all practical enough to want to capitalize on the video's popularity to promote the struggling bookstore. So they decide to host a speed dating event with monogamous and polyamorous hours. The problem is that everyone who comes for the polyam hour thinks they're a triad and keeps asking nosy questions. They play along, but the thing is that Ren is crushing hard on the couple, and they're crushing back, but they're all too afraid to admit it or do something because they're all fresh off of breakups.

So they fake-date and make TikTok videos about their dates. But Taylor and Alex have set a boundary that they don't date thirds anymore, not after their last third tried to break them up. The three of them agree to be friends with benefits, no feelings. But they fake date for the bookstore.

They go viral enough to get invited to a polyamorous podcast to talk about being in a lesbian triad, and suddenly, the silly videos and fake dating and fucking have become too real. Ren is crushing hard and needs to find a way to confess their feelings or else they'll break their own heart.

Do you have any book recommendations with poly relationships? Preferably fiction. I’ve been avoiding reading romance recently because everything is based on monogamous relationships and it gets tiring after a while.

I recommend checking the notes on this post where someone else asked. There are a lot of things recommended by others that I haven't gotten around to reading. 📖 I totally feel you with the mono romances being a drag sometimes. Its real bad when jealousy is a major point :/

Summary:

The man takes her in, lets her live with him and encourages her to learn magic. He tells her he has to protect the forest from the people entering it. Why wouldn't she trust and help him?

Princess Yi Zhen has been travelling by carriage for quite a while, her destination Lebedia where she is set to marry Princen Alexis. Only she never gets there.

Princen Alexis is nervous. They exchanged letters with their bride and are now going to meet her for the first time. What will they do, when the princess is in danger?

I stumbled across this book very recently and as I had read a sapphic swan lake retelling last month, which I adored and the premise sounded interesting, I decided to give it a read.

Review:

This story was told from both Alexis and Katya's POV, giving us insight into the charcter supposed to fall in love with the princess and the character not supposed to fall in love with the princess which made it even more interesting.

With Katya, it was intriguing to get to witness her inner conflict and the way she was torn between believing in what she knew, supporting the one person, the only person, that has always been there for her and helping Zhen for whom she was developing feelings.

Seeing part of the story from Alexis POV was also interesting as they had formed a relationship with Zhen as they exchanged letters and did truly care for her/was developing feelings as well. Having grown up with their parents in a polyamorous relationship, it was interesting to see how they tried to find a solution that pleased Katya, Zhen and themselves in the latter half of the book.

We didn't get to experience the book from Zhen's perspective, but her time in captivity with Katya revealed a lot about her character. For one, she had a strong sense of duty and even when she was catching feelings for Katya, she told both herself and Katya that she had to marry the princen no matter what, in order to protect both kingdoms and stop them from starting a war.

I did love both Katya & Zhen's and Zhen & Alexis' relationship and wish we'd have gotten to see more of their dynamic(s) which might've been possible if the book had another few chapters. Still, the length made it a perfect quick read with great pacing.

I'd recommend this to anyone, who enjoys retellings, romantasy or longs for a book with polyam rep.
