Walking down the street happy and glowing after there bath. Huntrix pass what they at first think are more fans gushing for an autograph, but one of them yells out a derogatory comment towards Rumi, gesturing to her bare arms.

Before Rumi can even let the cruelty of it sink in and feel it, a new fear overtakes her. Knows she needs to stop what's about to happen before it's to late. Turning on her heels she wraps her arms around Zoey, who surges forward with a enraged look in her eyes. Blocking the maknae from getting at the offending man.

"Rumi, no let me get em" Zoey squirms but can't get passed her.

It's not easy to hold Zoey back, Rumi uses all her strength but Zoey is resourceful climbing up Rumi's body. Even as Rumi pulls her back down she keeps surging up. Crawling over Rumi with feverish intensity. Putting Rumi Off balance, as Zoey gets up over her left shoulder and they fall to the ground. Controlling their decent and catching Zoey, Rumi has her pinned, but she continues to struggle.

"Zoey it's ok, it's not worth it" Rumi pleads meeting her eyes.

"Why does Mira get too?" Zoey pouts.

It's only then Rumi realises her mistake.

"Mira?"

Rumi lifts her head to look up, and Mira is no longer standing at there side, but towering over the man that yelled out. Hasn't touch them, hasn't even laid a finger or said a word, she just glares.

"Mir-"

"It's ok Rumi, these boys were just on there way"

"I-I..s-sorry" The man croaks out, his pants coated in what appears to be his own urine.

Mira remains still as the man runs off disappearing in the crowd and she turns back to them. Rumi can't help but blush, feeling a her heart race at the two of them protecting her. Mira's glare she is well aware could scare Gwi-Ma itself. A face that immediately softens at the sight of Rumi laying atop Zoey.

"You two, ok?" Mira teases, with a smirk at the corner of her lips.

"Oh uh sorry" Rumi said as she realises she is still holding Zoey down but she has stopped fighting.

Rumi feels her cheeks flush and stands up but Zoey doesn't let go instead wrapping herself around Rumi in a koala like hold. Resting her head on Rumi shoulder with tears in her eyes.

"Hey, its ok, I'm ok" Rumi stutters out her voice giving away her anxieties.

Mira steps closer wrapping her arms around them both swaying a little and the just stay like that for a minute or two.

"Better now though" Rumi croaks out.

“can we cuddle please?” you managed to sniffle out between tears, rumi simply nodding in response before she got up to get some snacks and comfy pyjamas whilst zoey put the TV on, an animal documentary solely on tortoises on the screen as usual.

you may have your bad days of body dysmorphia, but you know that the girls have your back no matter what and will always comfort you when needed, they’ll always be there for you and you for them in return.

you noticed how zoey started briefly stimming, her fingers actively wiggling about as if possessed. a big part of you was excited to hear her ramble about tortoises whilst the documentary played out, loving how she was so hyper fixated on reptiles.

rumi came back with the snacks and pyjamas. you and the girls changing from every day clothes to nice fluffy pyjamas.

Mira bumps her knee against Zoey’s, turning to frown at her. “Hey. You okay?” she asks quietly, so that the other students sitting in the lecture hall won’t hear her. 

Zoey gives her a smile, but it doesn’t reach her eyes like it usually does. “I’m fine,” Zoey whispers back, shooting Mira a double thumbs-up. 

Mira scowls down at her notes, her chest tightening with worry. 

Zoey doesn’t seem fine, is the thing. Sure, she’s taking notes as diligently as usual in her turtle-covered notebook, listening attentively to their professor drone on about mitochondria. But over the three months that they’ve been in Bio 100 together, Mira has gotten to know Zoey as a study partner and now a close friend, and she can tell when Zoey’s off. She’s paler than usual and drooping in her seat, propping her head up with one hand. Her eyes keep fluttering shut every now and then, almost as if she has to force herself to stay awake. 

It’s a stressful time of year, what with finals just around the corner and winter in full force, but Mira can’t help feeling protective over Zoey. That might be partially due to the fact that she definitely has more-than-platonic feelings for the other girl, but she doesn’t feel like examining that right now. Right now, she just wants to make sure Zoey is okay. 

 When class ends, Mira packs up her bag, then helps Zoey with her things, since she’s moving slowly. 

“Where are you headed? I’ll walk you,” Mira offers as they make their way out of the lecture hall. 

Zoey sneezes – a tiny, squeaky thing – and Mira feels her heart constrict with fondness and concern in equal measure. 

“I think I’ll just go to the library,” Zoey mumbles, rubbing her nose. “I think I’m getting a cold and my roommates are germaphobes.” 

Mira stops in her tracks, staring incredulously at her. “So they just expect you to camp out in the library all day while you feel miserable?” 

Zoey shifts on her feet, hiking up her shoulder bag. “I don’t mind…” she says, trailing off uncertainly. Mira takes a long look at her tired eyes and the pallor under her skin and makes a snap decision. 

“C’mon,” she says, slinging an arm around Zoey’s shoulders and pulling her close. “You’re coming to my room.” 

Zoey hesitates, peering up at her. “Won’t Rumi mind? I’m all gross right now.” 

“You’re not gross,” Mira says patiently, gently steering Zoey in the direction of her dorm. “And you know Rumi loves you as much as I do. Plus she’s really good at taking care of sick people. She brought me like, twenty different kinds of soup last time I was sick.” 

Zoey giggles, which turns into a cough. Mira holds her even closer, tucked warmly under her arm. Mira wasn’t lying, her roommate Rumi has adored Zoey since the first time they met, so she knows bringing Zoey over for a little TLC won’t be a problem – in fact, Rumi will probably jump at the chance to dote on her. 

Thankfully, Mira’s dorm isn’t far from the lecture hall, so they make it over in a just a few minutes. But Mira can feel Zoey shaking against her with tiny shivers that she’s clearly trying to suppress, and she wants to get her warmed up pronto. 

“Zoey!” Rumi exclaims cheerfully once Mira unlocks the door and ushers Zoey inside. Rumi jumps up from her desk and comes over to greet them, but her smile drops off her face as soon as she gets a good look at Zoey.

“What’s wrong?” Rumi frowns, obviously noticing the way that Zoey has all but melted into Mira’s side, leaning against her pale and listless. 

“She’s not feeling well and her roommates are assholes,” Mira says succinctly, gently pushing Zoey to sit down on her bed and immediately wrapping her up in her softest blanket. 

“Oh, poor thing,” Rumi coos, without a hint of teasing. Her eyes go wide and she sits down next to Zoey, pressing the back of her hand to her forehead. “Aw, Zo-zo. You’re really warm, I think you have a fever.” 

“I’m okay,” Zoey mumbles, blushing slightly. Rumi just kisses her hair and tucks the blanket tighter around her shoulders. 

“No you aren’t, but we’re going to take care of you,” Rumi murmurs, tucking a strand of dark hair behind Zoey’s ear. Mira feels a stab of something in her gut – not jealousy, exactly, but maybe something more like longing. Her feelings for both Zoey and Rumi are far from simple. 

“Mira, can you order some chicken noodle soup for delivery?” Rumi asks, already getting up to rifle through her sizable medication stash. “She likes that one from the deli on second street, right Zo?” 

Zoey nods, looking a little flustered by all the attention, then suddenly sneezes again. 

“Aw, bless you baby,” Mira says, her voice going usually soft and the nickname slipping out before she can think better of it. She joins Zoey on the bed, handing her a box of tissues. She starts rubbing her back with one hand and scrolling through her phone on the other, looking for the right deli to order from. 

“Sorry I’m being all…germy, in your room,” Zoey says, peering up at them over her tissues. “I really can go if you guys don’t want to get sick. In fact, I probably should go, honestly, I’ll be fine –” 

She starts to rise, but Mira gently pulls her back down. “Nuh-uh. You’re staying here, Zo. It’s fine, I promise,” Mira says, squeezing her shoulder. 

“Yeah, we want you here, sweetheart,” Rumi says, giving her a small smile. “Now do you want strawberry or grape for the medicine?” 

Zoey makes a face. “Uhh…neither?” 

“You have a fever,” Rumi says, in a tone that Mira immediately recognizes as the one that means she’s not changing her mind anytime soon. “Fever means meds. Grape or strawberry?” 

Zoey pouts. “Grape, I guess.” 

Rumi smiles at her, then pours out the medicine into a small cup. Zoey takes the cup reluctantly but swallows down the medication anyway. Mira kisses her temple, and Rumi squeezes her hand. 

“You guys are too sweet to me,” Zoey says, looking between them both, her cheeks slightly pink. 

“Nah. We’re just as sweet as you deserve,” Mira says, rubbing her back. 

“Yep. Let us fuss a little, you’re sick,” Rumi grins. She fluffs up the pillow on Mira’s bed, then pats it invitingly. “Why don’t you lay down and rest a bit while we wait for the soup?” 

Zoey glances at Mira. “You’re sure you don’t mind?” 

“A hundred thousand percent sure,” Mira nods. “C’mon Zo, when do I ever sugar-coat things?” 

Zoey snorts a little. “Never.” 

“Exactly,” Mira smirks. She lays down, then holds out an arm. Zoey obligingly curls up against her side, nestling into her. Rumi somehow manages to squeeze onto the tiny bed as well, laying down on Zoey’s other side. 

Mira closes her eyes. For her whole life, she’s never quite felt like she fit in anywhere. But somehow, with these two women, she’s suddenly found a home.

WHAT WAS MIRA'S LOVE IF NOT ARDENT ?

A breathtaking being who was caught in two worlds at once — idol in spotlight, hunter in the shadows or, even in the broadness of day — bearing the duty no one outside of her group could ever imagine. It was an enigma how she managed to preserve this fervency of love that she insisted had yet to be expressed to its full capacity.

It was what made her fierce enough to fight, and tender enough to cradle.

Mira had never believed in the idea of “home” being the embodiment of a person.

Too many years had taught her otherwise — family fractured, words wielded into weapons, love withdrawn like some privilege she was told she hadn’t deserved. She learned to keep her heart behind honed teeth and blade, forged herself into something that could take a hit without shattering.

For the longest time, the only space that felt safe was the one she etched for herself — her obstinate independence, her discipline, her refusal to bow, where no one could come close enough to see the parts of her still bleeding.

But oh. Then there was Rumi and Zoey.

Affection seeping within her life amidst the quietest ways — like Zoey’s laugher curling into the hollowed dip of her ribcage in semblance to sunlight pouring through blinds, or Rumi’s steady and kindhearted gaze rooting Mira’s own two feet the the ground below her, like she was worth something to look at, to stay for. Not just by duty, but with pure commitment.

In the beginning, she did not know how to deal with it. This … this openness, this rhythm of comradery, and choreography of learning one another’s competence and courage in battle, reading one another as well as the hearth and creases within their palm. The way it beautifully, stunningly took the shape of a friendship.

Friendship that included the subtlest of touches, the open compliments she tended to deflect from, the uneasiness beneath her skin when she noticed how they acknowledged her as more than their sharp-tongued choreographer and sister in arms.

Zoey, despite her self worries, harbored the bright, unshakable belief that Mira deserved to be given love with the same fervency and care she displayed for them.

Rumi, despite her own shadows and self deflection, maintained a firm persistence that made it impossible for Mira to run — a gentle curl of fingers around her wrist when Mira buried herself in hard-core rehearsals and dancing, not to just stop her, but to ground her. Take a break, yeah?

Somewhere along the way, Mira realized they had rewritten the script.

They did not just tolerate her bristle and bite — they learned the language of it. Knew that her bluntness was care in crafted armor, that her silences meant she was listening harder than anyone else. And in return, they gave her what she didn’t know she’d been longing for: gentleness without conditions, devotion without demands.

WHAT WAS MIRA'S LOVE IF NOT ARDENT ?

It blazed with heat and brilliance, ever-shifting, insistent in its absorption. She didn’t love in fractions. It was all or nothing — a blaze, sharp and tender in ways that unnerved even her. It never tiptoe, it soared.

It was perceived in every graze of her overworked fingertips across Zoey skin, in every kiss she pressed to Rumi’s forehead after their leader’s heaved sighs had dwindled to steady breaths.

Mira’s love pulsed in the unglamorous hours of practice and exhaustion — when Rumi bore the weight of leadership and heritage in attempted silence, when Zoey scribbled words raw with feeling and got too consumed in her own head, when Mira herself drilled choreography until her lungs burned.

It lived, too, in her arms wrapping around them both at night, in the silk and grit of her lips against scarred flesh, in the way she cradled their bodies as if they were rare, irreplaceable.

Love existed in those moments of stillness, when no audience was watching, when the bruises of battle had begun to yellow, when the jagged edges of past fights caught beneath Mira’s wandering mouth and she kissed each mark in promise.

She found herself memorizing them the way a drowning person would memorize oxygen; the constellation of sun-warmed stars scattered along Zoey’s soft features, Rumi’s complexion streaked with pretty, pearlescent-winding patterns that embodied moonlight itself, traits Mira has charted a million times

Currently they were pressed together, three bodies crammed in the corner of their rather lengthy couch. Why that very space? Well, why not? Mira would’ve caged them in her arms even if the space had been infinite. She learned to not only adjust to feeling them constantly in her orbit, but learning she too was as clingy as them combined.

Zoey’s small, familiar warmth was tucked against Mira’s left side, head was tipped lazily against Mira’s shoulder, dark hair tangled with traces of blossoms and a lingering sweetness of some honeyed candy she had been snacking on earlier.

To her right, Rumi laid a bit higher — curled into Mira’s neck, one arm wounded around her waist in a loose claim, her skin breathing notes of warm amber and vanilla that clung to the sheets.

Mira was enveloped by two figures, two figures responsible for the carvings in her heart that could only fit their shape.

The maknae’s fingertips drew what could be felt as hearts and stars — possibly even her own name along with Rumi’s over the pink-haired woman’s shirt-cladded abdomen, mumbling some shapeless melody, while Rumi’s own fingers had tightened their hold on their tall lover, nose taking action in lovingly stroking the smooth flesh of Mira’s neck, inhaling, exhaling; her breathing pattern was a quiet rhythm Mira could have mistaken as her own.

It was unbearable. Not the closeness, never that but rather the gentleness of it all. Of their leisured patience and swarming affections, and she could feel herself unraveling.

She has always been deliberate. In movement, in words. In the company she kept. But this — being in the center of them — is the opposite of deliberate.

She had not planned to be held. She had not asked or begged. Yet here they are, their affection draped over her like a quilt sewn from every fabric of longing stitched within each memory she contained of them.

Her chest ached with it. Mira did not think they realize how purely hungry she was for this.

But she suspected they had an inkling, for their expressions always looked so giddy and pleased when Mira finally exhaled and let herself rest in her arms, holding her tighter, closer, like if they were waiting for Mira to allow it.

She did not speak — not because she was uncomfortable, but because she knew that the moment she tried to name this feeling, it would come out wrong. Too bare. Too much, too rushed.

Zoey, of course, noticed anyway. Out of the corner of her eye, Mira captured her gaze — that loving, knowing tilt of her lips, the way her thumb remained just a second longer over the ridge of Mira’s knuckles. Zoey was rather good at pretending she was teasing and lighthearted when really, she was being impossibly tender.

And Rumi — Rumi perceived in a quieter way. It was sensed in how both Rumi’s arms enveloped Mira. She did not lift her head, did not speak, but there was a heaviness to her touch. I feel you, I’m here, please don’t pull away.

Mira has been loved before — or, at least, people have told her they loved her in their own twisted way. But it was never this. Never this fervent, beautiful kind of love that did not demand performance. Never a love that stayed beside her without asking her to be anything other than what she already was.

Rumi’s cascades of hair pooled over her side and to the mattress, her face half-hidden but serene in a way Mira wanted to believe she was partially responsible for.

Zoey’s lashes, long and ridiculously dark even when devoid of mascara, fanned her round cheeks and when her grin broke through — all haze and softness — the light seemed to follow it.

Surrounded by her own thoughts, persistent, unrelenting — jumbled with Mira’s and Zoey’s lulling heartbeat encasing her, fingertips skidding over healed scars on her adapted hands as Rumi had done many times before, she turned to look up at the choreographer.

“You’re not resting, Mira…” she rasped, drowsy tone trickling her frown. “You’re supposed to be sleeping.”

Mira’s mouth gave the softest smirk, kissing Rumi’s temple. “I am resting. With my eyes open.”

Zoey’s nose scrunched and she gave a wisped giggle. “No, you’re not. Because you’re conscious and—”

“Of course you’d know. You nap with your eyes open during rehearsal, Zoey—”

“Okay, that was one time—“

“Three.” Rumi interjected, finger pointed lazily in the air. “In a half if it weren’t for me clapping.”

“Unbelievable.” The maknae squinted and swatted at the two. “Why are you guys attacking me during cuddles?”

“Well why are you always falling asleep while—”

“As I was saying !” Zoey huffed, glancing back at Mira. “You’re watching us.”

“ —Again.”

They turned to Rumi, a hint of question upon their features at her added word. The purple-haired hunter blinked, a roseate hue painting her cheeks before peering down. Her palm had ascended to rest over Mira’s sternum, fingers slightly tapping. “Your heartbeats sound different when you’re asleep…”

Day after day, Rumi found new ways to surprise them — little bursts of wonder tucked into the exordinary. It was comical how the maknae perked up immediately, eyes fluttering awake in her half-doze. “You listen to our heartbeats?”

Rumi’s blush deepened, bleeding warm into the blue tracery of her etchings. They thrummed faintly across her shoulder blade and down the slope of her wrist where it still resided over Mira’s breastbone, pulsing in sync with the rhythm beneath her palm.

“Um, yeah.” Her voice was soft, hesitant, almost like a confession she wasn’t sure she should be making. “I-I mean, it’s common knowledge that your heart rate slow down when you’re sleeping, Zo—”

“Oh my gosh,” she whispered, suddenly alight, palms springing from Mira’s shirt to cradle Rumi’s cheeks. “You’re like a human stethoscope! Rumi, that’s literally the cutest, most amazing ability ever.”

Zoe wiggled closer, practically nose-to-nose with Rumi now, doe irises becoming impossibly brighter. “Can you hear mine too? Can you hear how fast it goes when you smile at me?!”

The patterns along Rumi’s skin flared brighter, crystalline blue and molten pink entwining at her throat, and Mira’s heartbeat seized before racing on. Something their leader definitely caught onto for the way her bashful smile softened and granted a tender gaze towards the dancer before their maknae seized her attention.

It should have been an endearing, lighthearted moment that Mira would normally be part of — Zoey guiding Rumi’s hands to her puffed-out chest, babbling in that delightful and lively way that belongs to Zoey — but to Mira it was something else entirely.

Watching them together like this, over and over again, there was a certain magic in how they just existed. Rumi flushing so openly under Zoey’s affections, Zoey vibrating with joy just for the fact of Rumi’s existence — watching these two grand, beautiful, impossible girls simply breathe in her arms — Mira felt almost startled by the force of her own devotion.

She wanted to tell them she would burn down the world for them. That she would tear through every shadow, fight every demon, if it meant keeping this — keeping them.

She never believed she could be someone’s safe place. How could someone such as her, devoid of softness, devoid of a safe place herself, provide that for another ?

She learned, however, that certain loves demand their own tenderness, and with the two most vital souls in her life, it rose up in her like something long buried, finally remembering the sun.

But instead, she simply allowed for her palm to stray from Rumi’s shoulder, thumb stroking once, absent-minded but full of meaning. Her touch slowed when her fingers skimmed across the familiar terrain of Rumi’s back, pausing at a scar carved in a past battle, below the hem of her top.

Rumi’s laughter then quieted, eyelids gently lifting, revealing those brown depths. Mira’s hand came to her cheek, thumb grazing the curve of her jaw, brushing over another faint scar — this one soft enough now to carry no pain. Rumi’s breath caught, not because of touch, but because of the gentleness behind it.

Zoey watched, grin tendering as she watched her lovers with wide eyes and lowered her chin on Mira’s chest. The dancer’s gaze lowered, smiling ever so softly.

“Mira-unnie…” she murmured, sweet and soft, and gave an expectant pucker. When Mira didn’t immediately kiss her as expected, only raising a slender brow, Zoey’s face transposed, a pout forming.

A low laugh bloomed from Mira’s throat, blossoming open the stillness.

She bent down to push a soft kiss upon Zoey’s forehead, the sensation of her growing bangs tickling her lips. Next was the tip of her freckled nose, two pecks because she was just so adorable. And at last, she kissed Zoey’s frown away, with one peck, lingering in the second, and another that Zoey had to steal.

Mira trailed a line of tinier, nonetheless affectionate, kisses across Rumi’s cheek, over her temple, finally remaining at the corner of her mouth until Rumi impatiently turned her head to give her a full kiss.

There was something unreadable that swarmed her dark depths, something delicate and ardent all in one.

Something long absent stirred again in Mira when she was with Rumi and Zoey. Quietude. Solace. They wanted to believe that the place where her trembling ended was exactly where they held her.

“You know,” Mira spoke, huffing out a chuckle at how they both looked at her. She cleared her throat “You guys are the only place I don’t feel… wrong.” Her voice was quieter than usual, stripped bare, and color rose high on her cheeks. “You’re the only home I want to come back to. Every day. No matter what.”

In a world filled with wisps and wonders, three hearts that were not entirely healed was all they needed, to hold and cradle and nurture. To love and be loved by.

And that was more than enough.

Neither of them spoke, too overwhelmed with the emotions radiating one another. There was a strong ability in unspoken words. And whatever it was, that unreadable tinge in her eyes vanished and she must’ve found what she was searching for.

Because both girls then came together with one shared an expression that puzzled the pink-haired woman, and before she knew it, Rumi snugly wedged Mira’s head against her chest while Zoey’s limbs tangled tightly around her frame.

Because Rumi caught that micro-shift within her girlfriend’s heartbeat again, and the tip of her nose nudged her temple before letting her digits twine with Mira’s slender ones.

Because Zoey exhaled with a soft lilt of a hum, eyes damp and lips trembling into a smile, as though Mira’s falter was the permission she had been waiting for, and nuzzled her cheek against Mira’s.

Because Rumi stroked her lips from the bridge of Mira’s nose, her forehead, her cheekbones and finally her sweet lips as Zoey breathed out praises and murmured ‘I love you’s between English and Korean.

Mira melted — not all at once, but in increments she did not notice until her spine eased and her jaw sighed. She did not think she had ever been more comfortable in her life. Not in her own bed. Not even in those rare moments alone when she can simply exist without eyes on her.

Here, she was simply theirs. She was home.

And in the quiet, with their warmth bracketing her on either side, Mira allowed for herself to imagine that this was what forever could feel like — the weight of her girls in her arms, the atmosphere palpable with the certainty that she was wanted, wholly and without condition.

Ardent. Tender. Mira could be nothing but those sorts towards Rumi and Zoey.

If love was ever meant to be defined, Mira realized with tears threading her lashes, a soft smile breaking through and her arms wrapping tighter around them, it was this.

The girls are newly on their own after having just debuted. When Zoey gets sick, she doesn't want to have to take a break, but Rumi and Mira remind her that it's okay and they take care of her.
