Yellow seems a common colour for spring and the flowers of Caltha polypetala (giant marsh marigold, kingcup) are particularly radiant. This herbaceous perennial thrives in a permanently damp soil and here is growing on the edge of a pond.

Capable of withstanding flooding and standing water Leucojum aestivum ‘Gravetye Giant’ (summer snowflake) is ideal for bog gardens and pond-side plantings. The white flowers are slightly fragrant with each segment tipped with green.
