Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
Pontcysyllte, pronounced Pont–ker–sulth–tay, is the Welsh name for ‘the bridge that connects’. Assuming you’ve mastered the pronunciation, your next task is overcoming any fear of heights when crossing the Pontcysyllte aqueduct of the same name. Just took immense psychic damage by watching a short video about the gorgeous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, recorded by an English guy who claims this is one of his favourite places in the world, yet did not even attempt to pronounce Pontcysyllte correctly.
And yet, in the same video, he had no trouble at all with Llangollen.
Little hint: the 'll' is pronounced the same way in both words, dude, that's how Welsh phonetics work, they are totally consistent. If you can manage it in the one, there is no reason in the world not to at least attempt it in the other. It's not as hard as it might look. If you love the place so much, please learn how to say its name!
(Then again, I still haven't got over that time Coronation Street decided that two of its characters would give their children Welsh names, and then also decided that one of those names would be Llio - despite the fact that not one single member of the cast has the faintest idea how to pronounce the name Llio. Another hint: it is not pronounced Cleo, despite that being how the actors say it every single time.)
