Padfoot tore across the long grass, Remus unable to call after him or risk being discovered. Padfoot was on the young boy and his rat before anyone noticed. He opened his maw and scooped up the rat, clamping his jaws shut so the shrieking, squirming rat couldn’t escape and took off into the woods beyond.
“G-G-GRIM!!!” A man who had suddenly appeared at the open window screamed.
“Billius, what’s wrong?” Molly asked the red-headed man.
“The grim, Molly! I just saw the grim!”
“Mummy, mummy, that big black dog ate Scabbers!” The boy with the glasses cried, throwing himself into his mother’s apron.
“The grim,” Billius repeated, stuck in a stunned state. Remus would later learn that he died 24 hours later, but right now he had a rat to retrieve from his boyfriend’s mouth.
