WELL NOW I HAVE TO BUY A NEW TV BECAUSE IM PUNCHING A HOLE IN THIS ONE
I just saw a post commenting on the fact that Rey was likely in shock when Ben actually died and that’s why she wasn’t screaming and wailing like some might expect her to be. And I agree, I don’t know if it would be totally fitting for her to completely break down right in that moment. She had a lot to process.
And seeing that post also reminded me of something I thought of recently; another reason why Ben’s death could have especially blindsided Rey. It’s because of what Luke told her on Ahch-To.
Think about it- Luke told her about how Leia had sensed the death of her son at the end of her Jedi journey. (Don’t get me started on that whole plot point because there’s so much about it that bothers me and also just doesn’t make sense) Luke told Rey about that literally right after Rey had essentially killed Ben (given him a mortal wound) right when Leia died. If I were Rey I would logically conclude that that was the event Leia’s vision had been hinting at. Therefore Rey would have figured, well that’s done now because I just undid his death by healing and saving him! That means that in the moment Rey wakes up in Ben’s arms on Exegol, even with the understanding he just transferred some life force to her, she was unlikely to be expecting him to then die. If I were her I’d be assuming that vision of Leia’s was null and void by then. By that moment she was just thrilled and relieved and wasn’t expecting anything bad to happen. She would have assumed they were in the clear. Plenty of reason to be in shock when he actually collapsed.
If anything that makes it all the more sad and depressing, so yeah I’m sorry for sharing ok. 😆😭
hhhhhh
I’m Sure You’re Not... (This was posted two weeks ago on Patreon, thanks for your support!)
"The detachment of the growing individual from the authority of the parents is one of the most necessary, but also one of the most painful achievements of evolution. It is absolutely necessary for this detachment to take place, and it may be assumed that all normal grown individuals have accomplished it to a certain extent. Social progress is essentially based upon this opposition between the two generations. On the other hand, there exists a class of neurotics whose condition indicates that they have failed to solve this very problem."
-Otto Rank in The Myth of the Birth of the Hero
Rey being alone again..
There’s one thing that’s bothered me.
The movie the force awakens starts with Rey being by herself. You can see that she’s aching with loneliness.
She’s wanted to belong and be wanted by someone.
She wanted a family. Why else did she wait for her parents for so long?
And yet through the whole trilogy, she ended up alone again.
I just think that’s so shitty that two people that’s lived their whole lives alone or used, ended up alone or dead.
Ben was pretty much toretured and manipulated his whole life. And Rey was abandoned. Ben dies after getting a redemption, kissing his soulmate but at what cost? He didn’t get a happy ending because he’s DEAD. And Rey has just found Ben, he’s turned to light for her, he saved her, she can finally be happy and feel like she has a family. That they both could have a family. But it was too good to be true.. Ben dies in her arms. And we don’t get to see how Rey handles it, we don’t get to see her mourn.
Just that she’s alone.. again.
Next Steps
Rey: Ben, I can’t believe it! You helped me kill that undead Sith Lord and the universe is saved! Again! Hopefully for at least a few years! Presuming he’s actually dead this time! Ben: Yep. Wasn’t really sure which way to lean until just the last few minutes, but I got there. That’s kind of a thing in my family. We like to keep ‘em guessing. Makes it more dramatic. [yawns, stretches] [takes off his cloak and replaces it with a giant oversized sweatshirt with “Coruscant State University” on the front] Rey: Wh...what are you doing? Ben: Well I’m not evil anymore, so, I dunno. I think I’m just gonna chill at my mom’s for a while. Maybe go back to school in the fall. I’m like, three semesters away from graduating so I guess I might as well finish. Maybe get an apartment on campus with some guys. Rey: [blinking] But you...I mean...I’m really glad you rejoined the light side and all, but... [looks at the others, lost] Finn: Dude, you can’t just leave and reenter society. [to Poe] Can he? Poe: What about all the people you killed? All your crimes? Ben: [shrugs] I said I was sorry. Rey: No you didn’t! Ben: OK, fine, I’m sorry. Obviously it was super dumb to join the dark side and I feel pretty bad about it. [pause] [everyone continues to stare at him] It’s not like I’m gonna do it again. [mutters] Probably. Finn: [opens and closes his mouth several times] Rey: [quietly] I don’t...I mean we have to do something with him, right? [frantically paging through one of her old Jedi texts] There’s got to be some sort of...Force Court, or something... Poe: Y-yeah! You have to stand trial! General Organa’s not going to let you move in with her just like that! Ben: [nodding slowly] You’re right, my mom will be super mad at me. And she is scary when she’s mad. Can I crash on your couch for a while? Poe: What?! Ben: Fine, that’s a no. What about you guys? Rey: [flabbergasted] Wh -- well, technically I don’t even have a home. Finn: Same. The last year has been pretty weird and renting an apartment wasn’t high on my to do list. I kind of assumed I’d just...sleep on the Falcon for a while, I guess. Ben: [snaps his fingers] The Falcon! Yes, of course. I’ll live there for now. [rolls up a sleeping bag and tucks it under his arm] Finn: I didn’t say you could -- Ben: Oh, you guys can come too! There’s a couple of bunk beds, it’ll be like a sleepover! Poe: I’m pretty sure we’re not supposed to just let a war criminal walk off with zero consequences! Ben: Oh my gods, are we still talking about this? I said I was sorry! Also I did save the universe. You’re welcome, by the way. Rey: After you helped make it worse! Ben: OK, fine, so I’m not perfect. Sor-ry, Miss I-Never-Destroyed-a-Whole-Village. If it’ll make you feel better, I’ll donate some money to an animal shelter or something. Finn: [scoffs] Ben: I’ll pick up litter on the weekends! As long as it’s not too hot. Or cold. Or windy. Or rainy. Or humid. [pauses, gestures at his head] My hair, you know.
Okay so I'm just going to headcanon that TROS!Rey is actually just a really hastily programmed droid that Rey made to go on some adventure with the guys and maybe try to deal Kylo's bullshit while she takes like a sorely needed vacation away from all this. Hence why Rey makes zero sense and acts all OOC and doesn't seem to display proper human emotion like someone who is not a robot. Reybot tries, but she doesn't quite cut it. And our poor himbo Ben Solo just can't quite tell, bless him.
Ben: *brings Reybot back to life by accidentally pressing her restart button*
Reybot: *thump* whrrrrrrrr
Reybot: Ben.exe
Reybot: a>kissofgratitude.exe
Ben: ... *dies happy, but kinda confused*
Reybot: Ben.exe has crashed.
And then Rey comes back with a nice mani/pedi to find her boyfriend dead and Reybot buried her fucking lightsabers in the goddamn sand yOU HAD ONE FUCKING JOB, REYBOT.
