Man, I STILL don’t get what people saw in The Force Awakens.
I’m not asking for anyone to change my mind and it’s totally fine if someone loved it (CLEARLY I was in the extreme minority here and as a huge PT fan I would never ever EVER go after someone for just minding their business and enjoying their Star Wars), but I to this day have never been so angry and confused at the end of a Star Wars movie in my life.
I think a lot of people had Delayed Reaction Syndrome here, or this was their literal introduction to the franchise, because I walked out being like “…the fuck can they even DO with this that won’t ultimately be terrible or break a bunch of other stuff or be out of character or infuriate everyone [FINE, yes, that last one’s a given with all Star Wars].”
Spoiling the plot of TLJ for myself a couple years later was both gratifying and also *terrifying* because I was over here reading people’s hype on tumblr about All The Stuff They Knew Was Going To Happen in the next one, and I already knew it was…none of that. In part because of Choices made by various folks both before and AFTER TFA, but also (to me) in NO small part because TFA has to be THE laziest piece of Star Wars content I’ve personally ever seen. AI practically could have written that script, except even AI wouldn’t have made ancient as fuck divorced Han Solo be in like WAAAAAY TOO MUCH of that movie. That movie feels like they asked someone who hadn’t seen ANY Star Wars of any kind since the early 80s and was told to just work off of the basic tropes they half-assedly remembered from childhood.
Yeah, I guess I’m still pissy about it, a lil. 😉
