Something else that's quite fascinating about Doctor Foster is the different ways it portrays the charm of its leading characters.
Gemma is the competent, assertive, passionate beauty that's always in motion. She uses that charm for manipulation but it's usually short-term and badly concealed, designed to achieve quick results for urgent matters, and once they are achieved, she grows cold and distant again. The image of unavailable high-value woman is part of her charm, although it is the reason people hate her too.
Simon is shown in a very different light, and the most fascinating part is that we see him both as the audience and from Gemma's perspective. The camera lingers on his face and figure the way it doesn't on any other character. His softness and emotional closeness even with his victims are regularly highlighted. And he gets away with his deception for so long because he's much better at subtle manipulation and emotional intelligence! Which are traditionally feminine qualities!
The series does an excellent job of showing him as the primary source of Gemma's pleasure and comfort so that we understand why she's fixated on him the way she is. Just think about it! Pleasure and comfort! Not protection, not status, not any other things that male characters typically provide that's valuable. And it's the same with Kate! She's the one with money and power, all he does is provide her pleasure and look after their daughter!
Politics at the dinner table

they made tom an unpaid intern 😂
(from the lets solve on gt live)
Yes! I really enjoyed the newest Let's Solve, I thought Rye Toast was an excellent guest and Tom continues to prove he is the most submissive and br agreeable host at Theorist.
Anyone who wants to give Team Theorist shit for not being as engaging or entertaining as MatPat needs to watch the host of GTLive dom the host of Game Theory for exactly 1:00:03 minutes, cause honestly it makes you feel alive.
Had a dream I was in a production of King Lear and everything was completely normal except they exclusively referred to Poor Tom as “Unwealthy Thomas”
how drunk would you have to be to put the other rock humans you know on a tier list based on how willingly you'd sleep with them? would the tiers having funny names (such as "Respectful Pass" "DISrespectful pass" "my gaze is respectful i promise" "get me a few more drinks and you're in my pants") influence it?
because the mental image of you being drunk enough to do this is funny to me
Excuse me? Okay first off, I've only gotten horrifically drunk the one time. Rock humans have a blessedly high tolerance to alcohol. Have you ever tried getting a rock drunk?
Second off I got drunk to make this s oif you want explantions i can give them to you.
OKAY. SO.
Tom is like "I feel so hot and gross in all this fur" RIGHT?
He starts grooming himself and it takes him a full minute to realize he's doing it. Also Tom realizing how good ear/chin scratches are when you're cat coded
^Tom the whole time in Sonic's body
And YES to Tom embracing ear and chin scratches
