It may not be vacuuming (thankfully it's stopped), but I highly doubt it was sex...or if it was, that's one really loud and uncomfortable sounding vibrator.

What is a small, but useful, teacher trick that you use that other teachers could employ?

I had to think about this one!

I keep a paper gradebook in addition to the online gradebook — back-up, ya know. I record grades in the paper copy first, then transfer them to our online program. Here’s my trick: when I enter in grades online, I highlight the entered-grades in my paper copy, in two or three different colors by column, so the columns are easy to differentiate.

If a student is missing an assignment, that blank doesn’t get highlighted. It makes my search for students with missing assignments rather quick, as well as a quick way to form an impression about how my classes are doing in terms of submitting work. If a student submits something late, after I’ve already entered in those grades, the un-highlighted nature of it tells me I still need to enter it in online.

Inevitably, students ask me while I’m teaching what their grades are. I can’t always tell them — usually can’t, in fact, because a.) teaching and b.) the time it takes to get the program up and running. HOWEVER, this makes it super easy for me to, at some point by the end of the period, quickly look at my paper gradebook and write the missing assignments on a post-it. I can’t tell them their exact grade, but I can tell them how to improve it.

I'm going to make note of it in our course assessments the school has everyone fill out at the end of each term.  I don't even know who the department head is, and the whole situation is strange because it's an online course.  

I can't even begin to figure out what he wants from me for this project, even after all our correspondence.  I'm at the point where I'm going to do whatever and just hope that he doesn't give me such an awful grade that my current A gets pulled below a B (I could care less if I get a B).

1. What’s your go-to when you have to bring something to someone’s house?

Wine. I always have a few bottles on hand.

2. Out of all the schools you’ve attended, what has been your favorite mascot?

hm...I've never thought about it. I don't really have one I'm particularly attached to.

3. Which author do you most look forward to having new books come out?

I hate to be cliche, but I do like Neil Gaiman's books. Currently, however, I'm eagerly waiting for the new Discworld novel to become available at the library.

4. Favorite Broadway musical?

I have never actually seen a musical on Broadway, but I do like Les Miserables (another cliche, sorry). I don't really know musical theater.

5. Best thing to snack on when you get hungry?

I'm not a snacker, but I like clementines in the winter.

6. A hot-button issue that came up recently that I didn’t know could be a hot-button issue: Do you put magnets on your fridge?

Yes. 

7. Least fun adult responsibility that makes you wish you were a child again?

Right now, finding a good mechanic to install new tires and a good, reliable tire retailer where I can purchase new tires. Seriously, I should not be driving around with my tires in this condition.

8. Someone who always makes you laugh (doesn’t have to be famous)?

My best friend in NYC. We were on the phone for six hours yesterday!

9. What is something outside the regular items you always bring with you when you travel?

Oh, geez. I'm such a boring and practical packer. If I can manage it, I do bring a little pillow so I can use it on the plane.

10. What is something in your house/apartment that makes you happy when you look at it?

My bookshelves.

11. And finally since I have a lot of it at my disposal, what are the good qualities of snow?

I like the snow that squeaks when you walk through it, but I also like it when it gets so cold (not sub-zero) that a crust forms on top and you have crunch your way through it.
