when you make a character and someone you really like on the same day adds the same character. Yeah.. that hurts. Mmhmm. Oyvey.

I wrote this a little while ago, my instant reaction to something that’s upset us all once or twice.

You know the one thing that I really hate about this site? That instantly you see someone who plays the same character on the dash and you feel-- inadequate. We’re adults and we know better but that doesn’t stop that instant pang of feeling like you’re not good enough so obviously someone better is going to come and write your character better.

They’re going to write better or just be better. And that you’ll be left behind and forgotten. Abandoned. It’s wrong and whats worse is that sometimes it happens! That your partners leave you for another character so it does NOTHING to assuage your panic or feelings of instant terror when you see it. It makes you feel worse.

But then you have to stop. Think. And go you know what? It isn’t a fucking competition. The RPC is a massive place full of so many amazing people and yet we’re so afraid of talking to someone new or making a character we’ve poured so much love into. We’re afraid of being replaced.

We should be supporting each other. Play characters that get played a lot, there is room. See other ways they are played, explore the far reaches of the fandoms. I hate that I fall into that trap too. But you know what? I’m excited to see what they do.
