Can we talk about Just Like Starting Over (Stripped Down Mix, 2010)?
Everyone debates over whether JLSO is for Paul or Yoko. The big one is the "It's time to spread our WINGS and fly don't let ANOTHER DAY go by MY LOVE" lyrics but no one ever discusses the part in the Stripped Down Mix from 2010 where at the beginning John says "This one's for Gene and Eddie and Elvis....and Buddy!"
First of all, yes they're a bunch of the early rockers that J&P(&G) all talked repeatedly about loving.
But secondly!
Gene (Vincent)= Be-Bop-A-Lula = a fave John song he played often and played the day J&P met.
Eddie (Cochran) = Paul played Twenty Flight Rock as his audition for John's band.
Elvis = they both loved Elvis' looks an 🤨 amount, loved his music, also Paul kind of looked/s like him.
Buddy (Holly) = Loved his music, the whole John's Buddy Holly glasses thing, the fact that the name The Beatles is kind of after Buddy Holly and The Crickets, big inspiration for them.
AND that's not even to mention the whole take a trip alone together somewhere far far away thing!
And it's like...if you just WANT to argue that it's for Yoko, yes those are a bunch of John's favorite artists. But then what do you do with all this other information??
If you add 2 (3 Wings Song Titles) + 2 (Artists J&P specifically have a big past with) it most definitely = 4.
Like???
john lennon, in 1971: imagine all the people living life in peace. except paul. fuck paul.
I feel like Paul's album "Press to play" is very slept on. It's a great bloody album and I still haven't heard anyone talk about it.
I remember buying the record and once it started playing I was blown away by it.
(Or maybe I'm wrong about it being underrated and I'm just saying some utter bs)
"Band on the Run" is a song by the British–American rock band Paul McCartney and Wings, the title track to their 1973 album Band on the Run.
Released as a single in 1974, it topped the charts and sold over a million copies in 1974 in the United States alone and went on to international success, becoming one of Paul McCartney's most famous songs.
A medley of three distinct musical passages that vary in style, "Band on the Run" is one of Paul's longest singles at 5:09. The song was largely inspired by a comment that George Harrison had made during a meeting of the Beatles' Apple record label. The theme is one of freedom and escape, and its creation coincided with Harrison, John Lennon and Ringo Starr finally parting with manager Allen Klein in March 1973 (Paul had refused to sign the contract with Klein four years earlier, saying he "didn't trust him") , leading to improved relations between McCartney and his fellow ex-Beatles.
The original demos for this and other tracks on Band on the Run were stolen shortly after Wings arrived in Lagos, Nigeria, to begin recording the album. With the band reduced to a trio consisting of Paul, his wife Linda, and Denny Laine, "Band on the Run" was recorded at EMI's Lagos studio and completed at AIR Studios in London.
