FOTD #101 : conifer blueing bracket! (postia caesia)
the conifer blueing bracket is a bracket fungus in the family fomitopsidaceae. it is a wood rot that usually grows on pine !! it has been reported in europe (most commonly britain & ireland), north america & some parts of asia.
the big question : can i bite it?? some sources call it edible - but, most declare the edibility unknown.
p. caesia description :
"the fruitbodies are typically 1 to 5cm across & up to 1cm thick, & the upper surface is covered in fine hairs & radial wrinkles that create a slightly wavy margin. the upper surface is white initially but develops a blue-grey tinge as it matures, & it also blues fairly soon after being handled. the pores are white and spaced 4 to 6 per mm."
