I don’t want to sound like I’m bragging but I’ve taken a lot of math classes in my life over a lot of different areas so I can reasonably give an introduction for very many different concepts.

Which when coupled with the facts that 1) I tend to sometimes keep a distance and avoid answering personal questions 2) I cannot ever stop myself from explaining things if I think they’re cool or are relevant I think is why some of the other grad students treat me like a cryptid.

A few days ago I explained how Fourier transforms work to a person who is in a class on Fourier transforms that I’m not in. She thanked me but also looked a little scared because two days prior I had spent thirty minutes explaining the basics of mathematical logic. I need to be put down probably.

For a class on how to teach we had to give a 10 minute lecture on something we’re interested in, so I took the opportunity of a captive audience to talk about my beloved blood on the Clocktower for 10 minutes straight.

It went very well! One person there had apparently played the game (seemingly a lot, he was even familiar with how to play with Atheist), and both the prof and another student were interested in how it plays. So I’m seeing if I can get a group together!!! Yippeeee I love blood on the Clocktower so much but in a normal way I swear.

There’s something really funny about three graduate students alone in the mathlab with one (1) freshman with a calculus problem that somehow none of them can solve.

We had this related rates problem and I spent like thirty minutes doing a bunch of algebraic manipulations that I think were kosher and then got y=0, which was clearly wrong. I walked the other two grad students through what I did and neither saw a problem, one of them had a different approach and did some wizardry and got a completely different but equally inscrutable answer.

Eventually he plugged it into desmos and the answer was pi/6, which was crazy as all hell because that was way nicer than anything had any right to be. The solution guide that came with the homework involved doing all of the wizardry he did and then some and then getting a quadratic in sin x. Just utterly deranged for a freshman to have to do. I feel bad for that class.

Terrible news for my productivity and potentially my mental health: I have redownloaded cookie clicker

I mentioned to a psychiatrist I once had that I may have ADHD so she sent me an ADHD questionnaire and I answered yes to almost every question. But she wasn’t convinced so later she sent me another ADHD test which was this evil “game” where a series of images were shown to you and you had to press the spacebar whenever they showed you the ace of hearts, meanwhile there’s a bunch of random sounds or images floating by.

Like. What? All of the distractions were on the periphery and plus the task was so simple that I personally had no issue completing it for like 25 minutes straight even though I was bored as hell. Then she got the results and told me it came back NT.

I thought this test was BS so I looked into it more and found out it comes from like a resource pack of tests online.

So I made fake account to the online resource (they did nothing to check credentials), and used my free trial to “test” several friends of mine, including at least one with diagnosed ADHD.

The results were all meaningless gibberish but all reported back negative ADHD because there was not an appreciable delay in the spacebar hits or whatever? I stopped seeing this psychiatrist shortly after.
