I guess it depends upon what you are shooting for in terms of either gameplay or writing. I use a default skintone by Ephemera, a really old one, but I like how it looks on the townies. Plus it is realistic enough for my liking. ;)
Usually writing as I don’t really play the game as it should anymore. Ephemera has some awesome skins though! The face texture looks awesome but the body part isn’t really what I was looking for >-< But it does look good on your sims!

Kurasoberina's skins are usually on the realistic-but-not-too-much side. Brntwaffles has some more maxis-y skins.
Fun fact! I actually bookmarked both skins from Kurasoberina and brntwaffles. I think brnthwaffles did an amazing job converting some ts2 to ts3, same for Noodlesims! Kurasoberina has these amazing makeup sets that actually made my sims already realistic enough. I mean, if you look at Jake, most of his face is covered with sims makeup that adds details to it. Which makes Jake closer to what I want him to look like. So CC helped me out back in the days because I was really struggling with ‘should I go realistic or maxis match?’

I just use one of Navetsea's old skins. xD If you want a link to all of them (for whatever reason) let me know. Don't go through his blog as the links don't work.
I actually came across that amazing page you made with comparing all Navetsea’s skins and it’s pretty amazing and helpful! I guess it was like a week or two ago I came across that post because I was wondering what skin you use. And... because I was wondering if the tiger stripes were skin overlays or just makeup XD
But, what is it with some skins and these muscled body textures even though the muscle slider in CAS is all min? It makes me pretty uncomfortable about my own body XD I mean they’re nice, but you know. I actually almost considered using this one a few years ago: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=479460

You know what bugs me? The person who did the default replacement of Ducksworth with TS2's Puddlesworth, purplepaws, got such hate off MTS for doing it? People were bitching that yeah I'm not wasting disk space with a damn duck replacement. Perhaps that's why ducks overrun my game. xD I adore that you're doing such a thing!
Wait do you remember when I asked if you had a recoloured version of that duck and I ended up being confused too. It was because of the size, but I mean... why whining about 192kb.. KB! Like... MB yeah, you can go all like that if something is 10 MB, but I can understand why this person kept some files. Though, the default replacement I made is about 21KB, yet mine could have been all 200 kb if I wanted to add some other things to it, but I guess that would confuse people.
Also! I just googled Puddlesworth because I was looking for the link and then I went to images and there are quite a lot of pics of your sims and puddlesworth XD Love it!... Oh and a guinea pig...

I completely believe you and that's why I loved your simblr so much ^^ I don't use any as well, I like maxis ones actually ! Well I looked for one once but never found one who would not change my simmies face too much :/
D’aww thank you! ( ^∇^) I know the struggles >-< Some skins just change your sims too much, it isn’t even necessary to use after you made a perfectly made sim and then use a skin that changes it all. Though, for some skins, you need to get used to it before you like it. Or need certain makeup CC to make it as you like. It’s a hard thing tbh, choosing a skin... TS2 was easier XD (I used this noodlesims kinda skin)

Wow, gnomes totally need to be retextured next!
Youuuu mean like the magic gnomes, or the gnomes gnomes? Because they both could use a retexture. Their texture sizes are about 32x32 which could end up really blurry for some people as that size is literally the size of a buymode thumb >-< Which is why I made the duck all 256x256 so it’s still pleasant to look at and the game doesn’t have to work too hard to render the textures, if that’s even a small issue when it comes to lagging. (We all know it’s the huge polycount that some people accept to use and don’t tell it’s like 30k, oh well >-<)
I still can’t get over the freeze bunny ice cream you made though! amazing!
