I was wondering why Tia Dalma/Calypso from the second and third Pirates of the Caribbean was always periceved as a Disney villain when she really didn’t do anything bad. To me Davy Jones was more of a villain because he was heartless and actually killed people. This, along with a discussion with my dad, has made me realize that the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has two main types of villains: the one that was cursed and has something to do with the sea who become interesting characters (Barbossa, Davy Jones, Calypso, Blackbeard, and Salazar) and the British and/or Christians who, in my opinion, are the real villains. Usually the first category are the ones that oppose only Captain Jack Sparrow and the second category oppose pirates as a whole. I’m mainly glad that a series portrays Christians as a villain, because while most aren’t bad now, a lot of them were terrible back then. A whole bunch of Christians were committing atrocities against other people in the name of God. They, and a lot of other Christians today, keep on forgetting the two main rules that Jesus teaches us and wants us to follow are “Love God” and “Love Your Neighbor.”
