Sideribus Inlustris : Starlight
It is in the night’s sweet whispers, under the eyes of the watchful midnight sun that there is a white haired male and brown haired girl resting upon the rooftop. A small wind blows, dancing upon the strands of their hair but neither of them are paying attention to the chill. Eyes (or at least her hazel eyes) are glancing up at the stars which line the sky so carefully, forming constellations that she could not quite name yet (but she will one day she hopes, her books were always her friends ready to guide her through).
“Does Onii-chan like the stars? I love the stars!”
She sometimes feels as if she is pulling, searching for some invisible thread that floats in the air when she speaks to him. Sometimes it reaches towards him and a small yank is enough to grasp his attention, but many times she feels as if she pulls the string only to reach nothing at the end.
“I do. But more than the stars I like the starlight.”
The light? Today she has reached him but his response is a mystery to her. The light? the starlight? The golden glamorous glitter certainly sparkles and burns with a glory that could not rival the sun but it held a vigor and fought till it reached its own splendor.
“They say that a star dies before its light reaches us so all we see is what is left. ”
Somehow (or maybe it’s on purpose) his information filters through her ears with a tint of sadness. Death before they are to be recognized, to be known by the rest of the world. But maybe all the same, for them to shine so brightly that they can even last beyond their death may be a beautiful thing. To be loved and watched by many on Earth, a source of connection for everyone. For she knows she would never shine that brightly. She was weak, her light would never reach through to anyone. Not to her onii-chan, not to her onee-chan not to anybody. But she will still try, oh how the child will do her best to be something to them.
“I’m glad they still shine though... they may be dead now but if they are still here, I think it means they shined brightly! So that I will be able to talk with Onii-chan here like this!”
And in the end one thing is for sure as the girl returns the smile the white haired boy offers - Kaneki Ken will always be a star to her. Always.
