Support the Global Democracy Promotion Act and End the Global Gag Rule:
What is the Global Gag Rule: The Global Gag Rule is a U.S. health policy that prohibited funding to foreign aid organizations that provided abortion services. The Gag Rule was first imposed by the Reagan administration in 1984.
♥ The Global Democracy Promotion Act would block a future anti-women’s health President from reinstating the harmful global gag rule. The global gag rule, or Mexico City Policy, prohibits foreign organizations receiving U.S. international family planning assistance from providing information, referrals, or services for legal abortion or advocating the legalization of abortion in their country, even if these activities are supported solely with non-U.S. funds.
IN OTHER NEWS
I spent the past four days at the Planned Parenthood Generation Action Nation Conference in Washington, D.C. and it was incredible. I learned so much and met so many inspiration people and I feel so excited to bring all of this to TCNJ & Vox. Maybe I'll make a longer post later because there is so much I could write.
Global Youth Advocacy Fellows Join Young People from Across the U.S. at the Planned Parenthood Generation Action Conference
Close to 500 youth advocates/super heroes from across the United States are in Washington, D.C. attending Planned Parenthood Generation Action’s national conference, where organizers gather to strategize about, and act on, building an intersectional movement for reproductive health and rights. As part of the conference, young advocates also went to visit representatives in Congress to express their support for sexual and reproductive health in the U.S. and around the world:
Among those at the conference are our Global Youth Advocacy Fellows (GYAFs), inspiring young leaders and U.S.-based college students who are working alongside Planned Parenthood Global and Generation Action to advocate for sexual and reproductive rights at the United Nations, and in their communities.
During the conference, the GYAFs hosted a workshop on U.S. foreign policy and itsimpact on the lives of women worldwide. They talked about the Global Gag Rule, the Helms Amendment, and how young people can influence government policies.
Follow the conversation - and the conference - with #PPGeneration on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr.
AND if you would like to share your personal reproductive rights story, you can contribute to the #WhyWeCare Youth Contest, a project of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, UN Foundation, and Sierra Club. The top three winners will win all-expense paid trip to New York City during the UN General Assembly in September (September 15-28) and passes to attend the Social Good Summit.
