It's been so very hot in this beautiful wide brown land down under, it is hard to be motivated to do anything but be a slug by the pool (or under air con if you're lucky). Ten minutes at my easel is all I could muster yesterday, and a little scribbly crow card for a friend was just right. I've been thinking about practise again, how vital it has become to me in both a deeply personal and spiritual way; and also as an important means to hone my skills. Practise is helping me with that ever present monkey on my back, perfectionism, which may sound odd, but I am seeing value in the process not just the end product. I'm looking forward to more practise today, and to being kind to myself when I perceive the practise to not be going well. To be a runner

Running isn't a sport for pretty boys. It's about the sweat in your hair and the blisters on your feet. It's the spit on your chin and the nausea in your gut. It's about throbbing calves and cramps at midnight that are strong enough to wake the dead. It's about getting out the door and running when the rest of the world is only dreaming about having the passion that you need to live each and every day with. It's about being on a lonely road and running like a champion even when there's not a single soul in sight to cheer you on. Running is all about having the desire to train and persevere until every fiber in your legs, mind and heart is turned to steel. And when you've finally forged hard enough, you will become the best runner you can be. And that's all you can ask for!
