Terry Miura - strategies for painting cityscapes
Artistic Process:
Something that I have noticed is the direct influence of my visual arts background and how it comes into play with Choreography. Looking back on it now its always been that way and has stunted my ability to produce quality material while I was a student. The thing is that its impossible for me to choreograph anything without a clear concrete idea which is why I've always leaned towards narrative or story ballets vs an abstract piece. Personally, I need a clear idea for me to work of off to be able to move forward which is also why I tend to enjoy working with Theater, Comedy and Film because I get to know the full scenario already layed in-front of me not saying that I don't enjoy or use improv just as much as the next guy to come up with movement but at least I have an end goal to work towards when I do it. So when working on personal projects it could take me months to come up with a good idea for me to execute which is terrible but once I have it... I go all in.
The only reason why I am even writing all of this is because for the entire day I've been stunted for a music video I am choreographing and it took me Seven hours of just sitting at home for some inspiration to hit me. Thank god. Now I'm all good to go into the studio tomorrow to work with the dancer and be confident in knowing what the fuck I'm doing.
Def would have been some problems if not though:/
My personal motto is The Indians did not dance to dance. They danced to make it rain.
