Everything pre-2011 is where I love to be. I do like things post-2011 but it's not much. I hate how the Batgirl legacy keeps getting fucked over by DC. Bette's been destroyed as a character. Cass and Steph are on unequal footing compared to the rest of the Core Batfam and Babs has lost her character development. The last time I wholeheartedly loved a main continuity Bette story was 2000's Beast Boy miniseries. For Babs it's Convergence. For Steph? It's her solo. Cass? Gates of Gotham.
Oh i love those stories. Dickbabs is my otp so reading nightwing/oracle convergence was a really special treat for me. I actually got introduced to steph as batgirl only because I started reading comics from the batman dick and robin damian era sometime 2 years ago after seeing damian on the movies. And Gates of Gotham is one of my favourite books as it just feels like a wayne kids hangout minus Jason which is my one and only problem with it.
Also, though at first Babs lost her character development, as of now she has lost her whole character. If you read batgirl year one, you see Babs As this independent, fierce, smart, and a really mature Woman who is making her place in the world even if she has to force her way into it. And as oracle, she is one of the most important asset to the whole superhero community, with well guarded secrets of the whole community tucked beneath her arms. She is just not Babs anymore. I miss her.
I mean i definitely loved Scott Synder's run on batman as he is one of my favourite comic authors, but looking back, he also overpowers the joker way too much so that title is also not without flaws.
Steph and Babs are now treated too much like romantic interests and Cass is hardly treated like her own person at all. Alternate universe titles are the only things I am linking about dc right now. These titles include harley/joker criminal sanity, harley quinn and the birds of prey, teen titans by kami garcia and gabriel picolo (one of my favourite artists) and others.
I also picked up American vampire because I love Scott snyder and am on volume four.
