Peter Guthrie was a character from the Pre-Barnabas era on “Dark Shadows” that I liked. Played by John Lasell, Guthrie was a professor of parapsychology at Dartmouth who was brought in to investigate a mystery surrounding Elizabeth Stoddard’s mental state. The cause of course was Laura “The Phoenix” Collins. After 25 appearances Guthrie was killed off.
He was a precursor for Professor Stokes who wasn’t introduced until 14 months later. I like to think that in a parallel time, Guthrie, Stokes, and Janet Findley (the psychic who investigated the ghost of Quentin Collins - and also died for her efforts) work together as Ghostbusters.
I wanted a color picture of Guthrie for a project I’m working on. But since he was only in the B&W era of the show, I created the one below from a different TV show, then adding the glasses.

In which I watch a lot of people gossiping and wonder what trouble they might get themselves into.

In which I say that Constable Carter seems to be a dimwit, that Roger’s behavior these last several days indicates that he is trying to keep more than one secret, that David makes good use of his second direct look into the camera, and that the last few seconds of the episode feature a powerful bit of acting by Alexandra Moltke Isles.
Roger enters the drawing room looking for his car keys and finds David sitting in the dark. David asks if he's planning to send him away, an...
In which I say that this little play sets up the only story that works in the first 42 weeks of the show, the growing friendship between Vicki and David.
On Victoria's first night in Collinwood, Elizabeth stops her brother Roger from entering her room. He claims he only wanted to ask her about...
In which I say that what we look back on the early episodes tiptoeing towards the supernatural were ways of establishing Vicki and Liz as mirror images of each other.
