Episode 1270: Friday’s Debut
Translator Notes:
Premium Friday is a real thing, and is an initiative by the Japanese government to encourage companies to have their workers take off early on the last Friday of every month. It was inspired in part by a worker who committed suicide after working hundreds of hours of overtime, though overwork being ingrained in Japanese culture has been a thing for a long, long time, so much so that there’s a Japanese word for death from overwork. I can only imagine that the inclusion of Premium Friday in Granblue Fantasy is intended to promote the concept (possibly in partnership with the Japanese government) and make it more culturally ingrained, in the hopes that that will make more companies adopt the idea. To date, only around 37% of Japanese companies either have adopted or have indicated the intention to adopt the idea.
I can’t believe the GBF new year’s event is about fighting a fried shrimp mecha sent by the japanese government to make everyone work less overtime
