This is just my opinion. I know some people may tell you different, but, when doing an oil pre-treatment (aka oil prepoo) to your hair, make sure you’re trying NOT to get the oil on your roots but instead focusing it on your ends and strands. And I will tell you why using myself (who has oily hair already) as an example:
When I prepoo with oils, I start by coating my hair at the tips and work my way up instead of using an applicator bottle, squeezing it at the scalp and working your way down like I’ve seen in multiple videos. The reason being, is because I already have buildup and oils on my scalp from the week just sitting there. Adding even MORE oil on top doesn’t help me when it comes time to actually cleansing my hair. My hair is THICK. Girl and I means thicker then cold grits OKAY! So, I don’t find that oils run down my hair when I apply it to the scalp. It literally soaks right on my scalp. So why 1) waste the oil because it’s not going to penetrate my roots ON TOP of the oils and product already there 2) clog the pores on my scalp even more, or, 3)waste shampoo since I’ll have to now do two washes for my scalp to actually feel cleansed.
The purpose of a prepoo is so not to strip away your natural oils when shampooing your hair. So by applying oil on top of products on top of natural oil it makes me work extra hard to get rid of build up on my scalp.
Will you probably get some oil on your scalp when doing a prepoo? Yea probably and I wouldn’t stress it. But, by applying generally to just the strands and tips I find it easier to cleanse my scalp and still get the protection that I need on my hair from shampooing. If you don’t have oily hair this may not apply to you but try it out and see if it makes a difference. Let me know if you guys try this method out or if you generally use this method already and prefer it!
