“Honestly, that-that man…” Preston grumbles as he hovers around the doctor working on Ford’s hand. It’d taken some time and trickery to lure Ford out of the basement. And Mabel. Once Stan spoke with her about what she fed him, it became clear that apparently cookies were the key to getting him to come out of hiding. It was possible some other kind of food would have worked, that perhaps the man was simply hungry, but regardless that’s what they used to get him up and out of the darkness.

Well, what Mabel used. While Stan had been able to comfort his wounded brother for a time, eventually he’d been shoved aside (his words) and Ford retreated back into the shadows. Stan hadn’t wanted to manhandle his already skittish, injured twin out of hiding, so he’d turned to his niece.

🥺Preston and Stan under mistletoe please....

The scarf is hideous, Preston thought. He was used to wearing luxurious items only the richest can buy. His mother despite being a kind and lovely woman, was still raised in luxury. Not only that, Priscilla and Pacifica are fashonistas and if his mom saw this scarf, she'll freak out and either buy a better one or personally knit one herself.

Not only that, the outfit Stan was wearing is really, how should he put this without hurting Stan's feelings? Awful.

That's lighter than ugly

You could tell that what he was wearing was a hand-me down. The bonnet looks old and some of the threads are loose. The coat had some patches here and there. And his boots looks like they've seen better days. Those boots even look bigger than his feet.

Still, despite the obvious cheap/old/hand-me down clothes Stan was wearing, his smile is different. Preston can't help but think that he won't be able to afford it, ever. Stan usually has a showman's grin, a fake grin. But a genuine one, you have to be someone important in his life to get it. To get it so easily like this and for free? He's very lucky.

That smile warms him more than the scarf does. It warms him more than his high quality winter clothes. It warms him more than the expensive blanket in his room.
