And I hated how he said these things, as if he was quite certain of my conditions, when I wasn't certain of them myself.

Cato tied the oversized beach-towel around his hips and tugged at it until it was comfy. He hadn’t put shorts on or one of his shirts after his morning shower, just the towel once he was all clean and now he was loitering outside his own door. Maybe... maybe just the towel was too... presumptuous? Maybe he should dart back to the bathroom and at least grab some sweatpants? Spirits. Last night with Dius had him... warm just thinking about. And the towel was fine.
How presumptuous I was at Verrières. I thought I lived; I was only preparing for life, and here I am at last in the world such as I shall find it, until my part comes to an end, surrounded by real enemies. What immense difficulties are involved in keeping up this hypocrisy every single minute. It is enough to put the labors of Hercules into the shade.

Hard to Say
The business end of the dagger was directly on the hero’s chest.
“You shouldn’t kill me.” The hero said, a smile despite the cracked voice and muddied face.
A cool smile passed over the villain’s face, somehow clean despite the rubble. The villain managed the upper hand this time, effectively trapping the hero in between large pieces of concrete, curtesy of their latest fight.
“Oh?” The smile gave way to something more sinister. “Give me, hm, three good reasons why I shouldn’t.” The villain said, their grip around the dagger’s hilt tightened.
“You enjoy the game too much.”
With a tut, the villain countered the first reason. “If I managed to catch you, then the game must be getting to easy. Two more reasons, hero.”
With wide eyes, the hero scrambled for another answer. Boring the villain wasn’t something the hero considered. Even in this current situation, their interactions were, more or less, entertaining, the hero supposed.
“Who else will you fight?” They finally managed.
“Think, hero, use your head. We’ve had a good run, it pains me to kill you.” The villain cocked their head. “Didn’t you rise because I started causing mischief? With what you call evil, comes with what you call good. One doesn’t happen without the other.” With a flamboyant wave of the dagger, the villain continued. “I practically made you. You can’t deny it.”
“That’s presumptuous.” The hero replied, trying to push themselves up. A slight sense of panic coursed through them.
The villain was on them in a flash, their forearm pressed against the hero’s chest. “Was that your third reason? Being presumptuous?” A crazed gleam in their eyes.
“No!” Came the quick reply. “No! Just give me a moment.”
“Five.” The villain whispered.
“Wait, hold on.” The hero tried to push up, only for the villain to push down harder, evident by the hero’s wheeze.
“Four.” The dagger had found its way back to the hero’s direction, hovering above their chest.
“This isn’t-villain, please.”
“I like when you say that.” They paused, then shrugged. “Three.” The dagger lowered slightly, inches away from the hero’s heart. “Two.” The blade was nearly piercing the hero’s costume.
“One-”
“Because I love you!” The hero shouted, feeling the metal on their chest. That was then they realized how frantically they were breathing. “Somehow, I love you, and for some reason, I think killing me would kill you.”
The villain was looking frantically over the hero’s face, looking for any sign of a lie. With their arm still on the hero’s chest, they removed the dagger, clutching the blade instead of the hilt. A hilt could still hurt.
“Because deep down,” the hero’s breath shuddered,as they eyed the removal of the dagger’s position.“Deep down, I think you feel the same.”
“I’ve tossed you off buildings, I’ve blown you into the past without hesitation.” The villain argued.
The hero raised their arms, and slowly pushed the villain’s away from their chest. “You don’t want to kill me, I know you don’t.”
Newly freed, the hero reached out to cup the villain’s face, and willingly, the villain leaned into their touch.
Their embrace lasted only a second, as the villain had snuck their arm behind the hero, the hilt of the dagger slamming into their head, knocking the hero out. The hero fell unconscious on the villain’s chest.
The villain mulled over the next options in mind. It was hard to say if the hero’s words were true, the villain never allowed themselves to think of anything along those lines. Now, the thought had been forced upon them, they had to confront it, and the hero it involved, the hero currently leaning on them.
With a grunt, the villain swung the hero over their shoulder.
“You’re presumptuous.”
