That is the only thing a man can do tho🐱
Let’s be honest, the real reason that Hyunjin from Stray Kids is so popular is because of his looks. I’m not saying that he isn’t talented(in fact, quite the opposite, he’s one of the best male dancers in the 4th gen of kpop!), but let’s be real here. He is one of the most popular members of the group because he is the most attractive member. Period. Point blank. End of discussion. Pretty privilege goes crazy because Han is also super talented, funny, and has a good personality and is widely recognized as an ace, but he’s not as popular as Hyunjin because he is less conventionally attractive(I mean he’s still gorgeous obviously but ykwim). It makes me feel a little bit sad for Hyunjin because he has made it very clear that he doesn’t want to be only recognized for his visuals, but for his talent as well. But sadly, a lot of his fans only like him because of his visuals, and make thirsty comments/thirst traps about him. The same is true for Felix and Bangchan as well, for that matter. Felix is popular because of his pretty boy looks and how they contrast with his deep voice, and Bangchan is popular for taking off his shirt onstage and being a walking thirst trap machine(even though he also gets bullied for his physical appearance because he doesn’t fit the Korean beauty standard, but still!). Obviously not saying that this is the only reason that they are popular, because it isn’t, their talents, personalities, and memeability(and Bangchan’s chronic foot-in-mouth syndrome) also contribute to their popularity in a large way. But let’s not play dumb here and act like their physical appearances and sex appeal to straight women and gay men don’t also contribute on an equal if not greater scale. I’m not even saying that this is a bad thing! Because I was also drawn to Hyunjin’s looks at first(not the only thing ofc!), but then came to love him even more because of his talent, his kindness, his sense of humor, his unique singing voice, his artistic ability, and him posting about the feminist/lesbian literature that he has read. It’s okay to like them for their looks if you also like them for reasons outside of that. It’s just that so many fans out there only appreciate them because they want to have sex with them, and that’s sad. I can’t feel too sorry for Hyunjin, though, as he clearly enjoys the lustful attention that he receives from his primarily straight female fanbase. He clearly likes being thirsted over and viewed as an object of sexual desire. I mean, he did make a kinky choking collar for his fans. Don’t save him, he don’t wanna be saved. And also, Hyunjin is a man. Men will never be sexually objectified on the same level as women are. So he’ll be all right. I do wish, however, that the other Stray Kids members would get just as much appreciation for their unique skills and what they bring to the table, but sadly, that will never happen, because looks are the primary focus in kpop, even above the music itself. It doesn’t matter how good the music is, if you are not attractive, you will not have a career or a fanbase. Unless of course, you get plastic surgery(oh, and btw, don’t try to pretend that kpop idols don’t get plastic surgery or are “all natural”. They all get plastic surgery. All of them. Without exceptions). It’s such a sad state of affairs, truly. So disappointing. A shame. 😞
In no way do you have to hand it to incels and looksmaxxers, but they are absolutely right about lookism and pretty privilege. It’s just an objective fact that conventionally “ugly” people (who are often fat, dark-skinned, or have other features associated with marginalized groups) are treated wayyyyy worse than conventionally attractive people. Even in leftist spaces, insulting physical appearances is super accepted as long as the target is a shitty person.
And pretty people are so fucking blind to their own privilege. They assume their experiences are universal and are shocked when they hear unattractive people talk about how different things are for them. Unfortunately this is really common in feminist spaces, where many “universal” female experiences are mainly experienced by young, pretty women. Women who are considered ugly- ESPECIALLY women of color and trans women- are basically seen as subhumans by a lot of people (especially men tbh). This is because sexists don’t believe women have anything to offer other than their looks, so they’re legitimately offended by women having the audacity to be unattractive in front of them.
It’s just so frustrating because I feel like we’re helping the incel/manosphere community grow by not frankly and openly discussing how prevalent and completely accepted pretty privilege is. It feeds into so many other things like transphobia, fatphobia, misogyny, and racism, too.
Anyway, this is a great video on the topic with some great discussions in the comments!
You can be the best person in the world and someone who is more masculine and attractive than you will get chosen even if they're the worst person in the world you ever met
Hate when someone's like "oh my god im so nervous to face revealllll cause ik i look so ugly😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫" and they finally get coerced into face revealing and they look extremely conventionally attractive or like their picture deserves to end up on pinterest as inspo. like fuck off where are the REAL ugly ppl are there any real ugly ppl left or is everyone larping and not a chopped chud
Ahhhh I just finished ‘someone for everyone’ and I just couldn’t help but think about Leah and wanting your own thoughts about her and her point of view. She is basically the only person that knows mc pre-Dex. She’s known mc the longest, they lived together for a while and I’m curious to see her perspective on dex/mc because for her it was planning her wedding, then being told by her friend that her fiancé is cheating on her and ending that friendship (yeah she was manipulating by her shit fiance and cheating friend) but then shit hits the fan! Turns out the friend she tossed aside was in fact right so now she has to make amends and she was probably expecting mc to be all by her lonesome like usual but nope. Because while Leah was in misery, mc was out here having a romantic love story with a man that looks at her like she hung the moon.
It got me wondering if Leah is a bit resentful? Bitter? Even just a tad. Even though it wasn’t mc fault and Leah is in the wrong, to see your friend have such a wonderful relationship while hers was in tatters, it just got me wondering. And because she’s known mc the longest if she differences in mc now that dex is in the picture.
Thank you for the ask!
In my upcoming longer form fic I think you'll get some answers but to give you a small peak that doesn't really spoil anything I believe the answer would be no, Leah isnt resentful of the reader and is in fact happy for her successful relationship.
I probably wont write anything from her perspective mostly because with this fic im not super interested in flushing out any oc's or forcing them on to people bc lets be real, I know most people don't really care about oc's when reading an x reader fic lmao.
We will get some perspective on some other characters in the Pretty Privilege universe tho amd we will see how Dex really feels about the way the readers friends treated her in the past.
Ty for ur insight bae as well as the inspo for Someone for Everyone! <3
