Interesting post on Instagram from british_colonial_collector (see link below) about a bronze sculpture in his collection of Joseph Chamberlain (father of Neville Chamberlain, the WW2 Prime Minister before Churchill) who served as Secretary of State for the colonies 1895-1903.
The interesting part for me is the hinge on the reverse side that reads “this bronze plaque was moulded by His Royal Highness the Duke of York at the British Industries Fair, Birmingham March 1st 1921” with the coronet of the DofY on top.
So it was cast by the future King George VI, unbeknownst to him some 26 years later, he would be king and Joseph's son Neville would be his PM.
The Industrial Prince, doing his thing and leaving his mark. 😊
Incidentally, this was only a few days after Elizabeth had turned down his first marriage proposal, so I just think about what his state of mind might have been while going about the engagement. Things to ponder...
