@princess-arya I‘m reading Catching Fire rn and Gale reminds me so much of Gendry.
It‘s funny because despite their many similarities, I hate one but I love the other. Esp that part where Katniss tells him to run away with her and he rejects her because he wants to join the fight and the rebellion or when he won’t accept her gifts (the gloves, the money) because he’s too proud. That’s so Gendry imo. Like him joining the Brotherhood as a way to rebel against the system or not wanting to serve Arya’s family and his anger at her.
Both Gale and Gendry become a lot darker too as a result of their hatred and thirst for vengeance. They’re also both poor and “tall, dark and handsome”. They’re in love with their best friend. And their jobs are similar (smithing, coal mining). They’re both not very talkative or particularly friendly and they absolutely hate the “nobility” (Capitol, Highborns). They get angry very quickly. They’re both good at providing for and protecting others.
What do you think? Any differences?

I actually agree with it when you frame it like that. Because yeah marriage out of wedlock is actually a big deal for the society THEY live in, and losing your virginity can often mean you are 'used goods' or tainted. That being said that is not the way D&D write the story. They changed it so Robb married Talissa not because he slept with her, but because he loved her. They (as you stated) wrote it so Brienne being a virgin was embarrassing and funny rather than normal.
They wrote Dany having sex with Daario like it wasn't a big deal. D&D don't treat sex the way it's mean to be treated in the narrative of the time these characters live in. I think Gendrya having sex WOULD be written as a big deal, if it happens. That being said that's just not the case in the worse D&D have crafted.
Oh, they also wrote it so Gendry had sex with three other women?? Like it was just a passing conversation? That was another reason I think the audience just can't understand the gravity of what Gendrya did. Because D&D went out of their way to explain to us "it's not a big deal".
@princess-arya I agree. But I would say that their world-building is confusing and inconsistent. Because at times (especially in earlier seasons) they make out that virginity is super important for highborn ladies - I can remember a few instances where it’s mentioned in regards to Sansa and Margaery. And how even though men tended to sleep around more, it was still seen as dishonourable to do so - shown with Ned Stark and his supposed infidelity to Catelyn - which was a smear on his honour as well. But then D&D just sort of ignored all those rules in the later seasons and went against all the rules that they’d established for their own world. Suddenly no one cares or finds it scandalous that Jaime and Brienne are basically shacking up together for a few weeks, really???
I will say that Gendry being interested in sex back in season 3 was already early character assassination. Because they just weren’t interested in exploring the reasons Gendry wouldn’t want to have sex out of wedlock (they probably thought it was boring). Sex just has a lot more societal meaning attached to it in their world, and D&D kind of gloss over it to get as much porn as they can into their show without having to deal with the consequences for their characters.
As for Gendry having sex with other women at some point in the time he’s away from Arya? I still don’t think he’d be very willing. I really do believe he’d want to make sure he’s at least married first. And if he did, he’d only do it if he’s extremely careful not to get the woman pregnant. At least the show did make a point of telling us that Gendry hadn’t been with a lot of women - like some other characters in the show. I’d say there might be fewer restrictions about sex amongst the common folk than highborns. Because there aren’t such high-stakes for the lowborn to get married and form alliances etc. So virginity might not be AS big a deal. Though it would probably still be important for religious reasons.

I don’t know how to be Lord of anything, I hardly know how to use a fork. All I know is that you’re beautiful and I love you, and none of it will be worth anything if you’re not with me. So be with me.
“I’d tell Mother how you helped me, and you could stay-”
“Would m’lady permit? Could I shoe your horses for you, and make swords for your lordly brothers?”
Sometimes he made her so angry.
