I personally think everyone who hates on Bryce in HOFAS doesn't understand it/her fully
im gonna go out there and say that Bryce in HOFAS is not as bad as everyone made out.
Hear me out
Ive just read the series so have read all the people saying how awful she is and how her and Hunt are the worst etc etc.
I read it differently
I read it as a woman who didn't plan to do anything major in her life, she was happy in her job and partying with her best friends. She was content hating her dad and the Fae and loved her human family.
Then her world got turned upside down and she was suddenly thrust into a leadership role, forced into a position where she is the only one who can end the Asteri.
Of course she isn't going to have a long plan on how it can work, of course she isn't going to have thought of long term consequences, and of course, most importantly, she isn't going to handle things well in the moment.
Don't get me wrong, she is a dick in the caves with Hunt. And she is very narrow minded when it comes to the Fae and ruling hierarchies. But who can blame her?! We all know her upbringing, we all know how the Fae treated her, what did we expect her to do?
Her and Hunt do argue badly in this. But in my opinion, of course they do. They're a fairly new couple, suddenly facing all these horrendous situations. Hunt was tortured, she was off world, they clearly need to learn how to communicate through these situations. That efficient communication sometimes comes through years of practicing and hard work in relationships, years which they haven't had.
Does Bryce make wrong decisions in his book? Absolutely. Does she treat her partner a bit badly, yes she does.
This might an unpopular opinon but it makes her more relatable. I get a bit fed up of perfect FMC who handle everything with grace and decorum. Bryce isn't like that, it's screamed at us from the very beginning that shes not like that
I actually love that Sarah gave us an imperfect FMC whose mate challenges her, encourages her to do better but STILL loves her unconditionally.
She listens to her friends, she takes things on.
Thanks for listening to my rant
Basically, I love Bryce and I think everyone is too harsh and has far too high standards and expectations of her. (She wound me up at times but I got the context and why she acted like that. I would have handled things much worse if I were her!)
I also think this is one big reason why everyone unfairly hates on Nesta but some of you aren't ready to hear that rant yet 🤣
