Seeing as I (sometimes vastly) prefer the unpopular heterosexual canon relationships over the popular non canon gay relationships. And it will probably extend to my watch of supergirl vis-à-vis guardiancorp karolsen karamel and supercorp. Except in scrubs because all the relationships were toxic barring jd x Turk

Emptiness

I wrote a small fic about Mon-El and the Phantom Zone with reference to s03e01.

The concept of the Phantom Zone has always been interesting to me, especially the one from the Silver Age, where it’s been revealed in various canons that Mon-El could occasionally view events but not interact without the intervention of a tele(em)path.

If you’re an anti, please don’t reblog or comment. I respect Supercorp posts and make it a point not to make nasty comments concerning your ship- please afford me the same modicum of respect.

Emptiness.

The worst part about the Phantom Zone wasn`t the sudden emptiness. The lack of sensory input, the constant sensation as if one`s head had just been plunged into a cold, dark bucket of water. No, all those Mon-El could take.

It was the moments of clarity that he couldn`t.

The Phantom Zone moved like an amorphous, cloudy sky, and so did everything in it. Had it only been weeks? Maybe years, or maybe days, yet he was already having trouble remembering where his limbs ended and where the pod began.

But, like a cloudy sky, sometimes the clouds shifted, and where there once had been nothing but obscurity, there was a now a shining patch of reality. Just out of reach, like in a dream; had he tried to steer towards it, it would never get any closer, remaining the same distance away until it was once again obscured.

And yet, a glimmer of hope remained. After a few run-ins with these, he learned he could manipulate them.

He was tempted, at first, to see what he`d left behind. To see Kara again, even from a distance, even if he knew he`d never be able to reach her in time. And yet, when the occasion occurred, the courage never came. She`d sent him away, after all, for his good and the planet`s. Her planet`s.

Even so, he could steer it to show him flashes. Time didn`t pass the same, of course, if it even passed at all. The horrifying realization of what he`d fallen into had seemed to last centuries. Brief moments of happy memories seemed to last nothing at all. And the more he tried to recall, the more time seemed to bend to the Phantom Zone`s will.

Kara`d spent time in the Phantom Zone. She was still tied to it- he could sense it, in a way. Like a string stretched taut, impossibly taut, but unbroken. It helped somewhat. With the crushing loneliness, and the endless stretches of nonexistence.

Mon-El didn`t know how much time had passed, following the string, his one hope at returning to her. He didn`t know whether he had moved at all. But when the string seemed to thicken, pull tighter-

No.

There was a shift. The clouds ran clear. He could see the scene play out, the cold water, the missile- he could see the last of her breath leave her body, the heavy pressure threatening to crush her lungs. 

Even Kryptonians felt pain. He knew that now.

If he could meet himself from the time before the accident and attempt even to begin to explain the emotions within him- the emotions that were as palpable as anything else in the Zone, roiling and threatening to engulf him whole- that arose at the knowledge that he just might be watching her-

Kara, no.

Could she hear him? She couldn`t. He could see her, but just out of reach. He could almost feel the cold water- though it was just his mind playing tricks, in the Zone, he could feel nothing at all.

No, no, no, Kara, no.

There was little difference between thinking and speaking there. His mouth didn`t move, but he could hear himself clear as day, though he could, in fact, hear nothing at all.

Kara, please. Open your eyes. Wake up, Kara.

Had time still passed, it might have slowed- or perhaps it was his perception bleeding through, pleading with the world not to be showing him her final moments.

Kara, wake up. Wake up. 

It was the only thing he could think, playing in his mind on repeat.

In a desperate move, he released the hatch of the pod. Would the yellow sun still affect him here? Could he still breathe...?

Would it matter if he didn`t know he`d at least done something to help?

There was no gravity- no float, no fall. But somehow, when he pushed away, trying to swim through the milky texture of reality towards her, the pod got further away, yet Kara got no closer.

Wake up.

No- the world was shifting again, escaping his fingertips. Soon to be obscured. He couldn`t know- wouldn`t know- didn`t know-

The last thing he saw before his view was obscured were blue eyes like comets, snapping open in the sea.

And then, back to nothing. No pod. Nothing to hold, to keep him grounded. Nothing.

Absorbed into the Phantom Zone.

In defense of Supergirl and Karamel

I try not to ship on shows because of all the drama and disappointments. I do ship though sometimes hardcore and sometimes not hardcore at all. On Supergirl, I don’t really have a ship I am attached to. i like Maggie/Alex and Kara/Winn, Kara/Mon’el, Kara/James and even Kara/Lena, or Kara/ Cat because Melissa has believable chemistry with any of them. Sometimes ships I like work out and sometimes not. If not, I still ship anyway in fandom. 

The reason i made this post is not because I hardcore ship Karamel although I like them, it is because a lot of misinformation is getting out about them and about the show. 

Supergirl is a fun show with good messages about not prejudging people and about showing compassion to others. Kara is not perfect but she is strong and compassionate which makes her a good but sometimes flawed superhero. She is a role model and despite any of her relationships, she has grown as a person. 

A poster put a meme up showing Mon-el, Kara’s current love interest, as belittling her and making it seem like he hasn’t changed and he still belittles her. That isn’t true. That meme shows lines from when they were enemies. Kara as a kryptonian was brought up to hate the Daxxam’s because she was told they were animals who were decadent, owned slaves, and basically were a mar on society. Mon-el was brought up to see kryptonians as self-righteous hypocrites. When she met Mon-el, they were enemies but Kara put that aside as soon as it was determined he was no threat and tried to help him adapt to earth which he did reluctantly because all he knew was the life he grew up with. Eventually, he began to change and realize that the way his people acted and believed was wrong and he and Kara became friends and eventually lovers but this was after he began to change. Up until than, they were rivals and Kara took no shit from him. When he told her he was the prince, something he concealed, which I agree was wrong, from everyone because he knew Kara’s kind hated his kind, she broke up with him briefly and they reunited in time to deal with his parents and his people. He didn’t want to be prince of Daxxam because he knew they were expecting things to go on as is but he did say that if he was forced to take the throne, he would change things. In the end, because of his mother’s threats to the planet he called home, he agreed to let Kara and the organization she works on poison the air against his kind and told Kara that she inspired him to be a better man and would take what she taught him with him and keep aspiring to be better.

Subsequent replies claimed Mon’el isolated Kara from her family and friends and that couldn’t be further from the truth because there were many scenes of Kara and him with her friends and family and Kara alone with her friends and family.

This upset me because the posters made Kara seem weak and compared her relationship with Mon-el to be like OUAT’s Emma’s relationship with Hook and that couldn’t be further from the truth. Kara always was strong and made hard decisions even if it cost her and Mon’el never took that from her or broke her down, or belittled her.  When they first met, and he was being an ass to her, she never took crap from him. Saying she was diminished by this relationship does a disservice to Kara/ Supergirl and the show.

Supergirl is a great show and really shows women empowerment and it is a fun show to watch. I like the way the show portrays their varying relationships and balances with action and fighting! 

Let me say right now I don’t agree with the cast mocking kara/Lena shippers and that is something they should sincerely apologize for. If the show doesn’t address this, than they deserve to lose viewers and be cancelled. It would be a shame because it was a really good show.

Also, if you haven’t watched something, don’t judge it without seeing it for yourself.

I don't get why people don't like Mon-El. I can see the whole argument with he doesn't respect her or whatever, but he's not horrible. He WAS horrible and being with Kara is what changed that. And if Kara didn't love him, she wouldn't have been so broken up about it when Mon-El had to leave. You can hate on Mon-El, but no one can ever change my mind about him. He has his problems but that's from growing up in a Daxomite society. He loves Kara enough to change for the better for her and she loves him enough to show him a better way of going about things. My mind is set on what I think of Mon-El and no one can convince me otherwise.

I started writing this as a comment on a post I saw but screw it I'm just going to write my own post cause I've been wanting to say this for a while. Sorry if this has been said before but I'm new to the fandom side of the show and I've never seen this said (yet) so here are my thoughts. I just??? Like??? Do antis???? Not understand the concept??? Of people changing??? Do they watch the show??? Do they ignore the points where Mon-El tries to better himself??? And shows his guilt??? And condemns the system he grew up in??? Or idk actively shuns his parents because of how they act??? He's acknowledged how he has lived his life is wrong and is currently trying to fix his mistakes. Lol this is like someone saying that the person you were when you were 10 is the same person you are now. I just casually watched the show up until recently and what I gathered from his plot line was that it was reflecting the real life instances where people are brought up with this internalised misogyny/racism/classism etc. and how, when they realise it's wrong, they start to try and fix it. But when something is that deep rooted in your upbringing it's hard to change completely so it's all about adapting and realising when you've done wrong and learning. And as we know Supergirl enjoys reflecting racism and the like with its alien characters. Idk I just always saw Mon-el as this representation of all the people brought up in racist or misogynistic or any other hateful environment and showing that you can change. You aren't your parents and you don't have to stay set in your ways just because it's how you're raised. You're your own person. I'm sure the majority of people have got to that point in their life where they realised that they were being discriminatory in some way and had to make the choice to change that to better themselves. I see his character like that. Just on a more extreme level. You know, whole planet destroyed, landing on a completely new one with different customs and practices and everything where he has to hide his identity and has several people constantly ready to judge his misdemeanours :) (I'm very worried about posting this I've never really voiced strong opinions like this before but idc right now my anxiety is low and I'm ready fight me)
