Can we please resurrect the SanSan fandom here on tumblr? Particularly the Sansa side of it? In the sense of having actual Sansa fans who acknowledge SanSan is a real canon dynamic?

I’m just getting so sick of the majority of ‘Sansa fans’ on this website having blogs that never even mention Sandor Clegane. I feel like I’m going insane every time I check a ‘Sansa blog’ and that entire aspect of her storyline is very pointedly erased or ignored. And on the rare chance it IS mentioned, it’s only ever in passing and dismissed as some ‘bad’ thing from her past with no bearing on her future.

This is supposed to be the Beauty and the Beast / monster-loving site, yet one of the best and most fascinating iterations of this in the A Song of Ice and Fire books is regularly ignored simply because contemporary fandom thinks they need to ‘save’ Sansa from characters they don’t like, instead of actually analysing the entirety of her story.

jonsas talking about sansan are always making clowns of themselves. firstly, didn’t jonsas steal about a dozen of sansan’s “stupid theories” like ashford tourney and the kingsguard’s cloak foreshadowing and claimed for their own? they didn’t call them stupid when they did that.

and secondly… did any of the jonsa theories come true?

The dudebros that dominated the ASoIaF discussion forums in the 2000s hated on SanSan because they worshipped ‘the Hound’ persona as their nihilistic antihero power fantasy and saw Sansa as a weakling who made Sandor less ‘badass’. The dudebros hated SanSan so much that they tried to BAN SanSan fans from even just discussing the ship as part of meta analysis or speculation on their heavily male-dominated forums.

The tumblr fandom of today hates on SanSan because they dismiss it as ‘problematic’ without even acknowledging the significance of their interactions, the heavily erotic symbolism and imagery, the constant foreshadowing, and the profound effect the characters have on one another’s psyches, and think they are righteously ‘saving’ Sansa from Sandor’s character by doing so (and often because they prefer a different ship for her that they deem more ‘pure’). They hate SanSan so much that they try to diminish its importance or even outright ignore it and prop up fake ships that have zero book-canon evidence in its place.

I didn’t staunchly defy the former type of SanSan haters for decades only to be easily cowed by the latter.

Both ignore the canonical textual evidence that shows that, whether dudebro Sandor-stans like it or not, and whether tumblrina Sansa-stans like it or not … Sandor Clegane is important to Sansa Stark, and vice versa.
