Okay, you’ve heard of Jasabeth and Pipabeth, but just think about Leobeth please.
These two would be the ultimate work buddies. And yes, I agree that Jasabeth would be too, but they would work together in planning out battle strategies, training schedules, running the camp etc.
But Leo and Annabeth would work together in building stuff that no one has ever even dreamed of.
Annabeth is usually the one who comes up with ideas and Leo being incredibly creative as well, suggests ways to improve her plans...until ‘her’ idea becomes ‘theirs’.
Annabeth begins to learn a lot from Leo, from watching and assisting him.
Leo gives perfect solutions (some very dangerous ones) for the practical difficulties she finds in executing her ideas.
They’ve built so much of stuff together, from automatons to tiny machines to track down monsters.
And now they work really well together.
Annabeth is the one who coaxes Leo out of some of his....crazy inventions and has more than once probably saved his life because of it.
The entire camp is now used to seeing mini-explosions and weird green gas around the Hephaestus cabin.
So that Chiron had to make them move to the forest, after a particularly nasty case where some scorpions were let loose around the camp. No one wanted to know why they needed scorpions for their work.
The entire camp is also used to watching them try out their inventions. Everyone usually clears out of their sight for fear of being asked (or rather being glared at by a pair of stormy, grey eyes) to help them in their trials.
Annabeth has gotten Percy to do it on more than one occasion. And she still apologies for the time when Leo’s machine backfired and ended up smacking him repeatedly across the face.
Although her apologies are sincere, they are made less so by the fact that she ends up laughing every time she remembers Percy being chased by a screaming, punching, vaguely humanoid shaped robot.
Whenever Leo and Annabeth end up on the same team for Capture the Flag and other camp games - and Annabeth always somehow makes sure they do, because she enjoys working with him too much - the opponent team shudders a little.
Because who know what they’ve been up to??
And when they find out, it’s usually not good for them...
Annabeth and Leo, initially were a little unsure if they could work together - Annabeth, though she knew Leo was incredibly smart wondered a little if maybe his joking around would clash with her personality and Leo wondered the same. He did not want her glowering at him.
But Annabeth quickly adjusts to Leo’s sense of humor.
After all, it’s a lot like Percy’s.
And soon they begin to just muck around the workshop during the weekends.
Sometimes working intently on a project
and sometimes just lazing around the workshop, idly watching one of Leo’s flying panda toys whizzing around the room.
Annabeth resolving to help him with his loneliness, because although he does have Calypso, she can see that he still hides his real pain away, beneath all his ridiculous puns.
And she gets him to talk about it, to finally open up completely.
Every time she notices him standing a little away from everyone else, with a sad look in his eyes, her heart hurts for him
and she always always pulls him along to join her and the others.
Leo is incredibly surprised and extremely touched when one day when he was unconsciously tapping out a message to his mother in Morse code, he hears a tapping sound replying back to him.
A reply in Morse code, of an assurance that someone was here for him, that he was not alone, that she and lots of other people loved and cared about him.
He turns around towards the sound of the tapping and sees Annabeth resolutely sketching away at the blueprint of a machine they were currently working on.
Her hand is on the table while the other is making notes on the edge of the sheet and Leo, feels a lump in his throat and has to step away to rub the tears from the edges of his eyes....
Leo being ‘Uncle Leo’ for the percabeth kids...the amazing uncle who is ready to let them loose and who sneaks some really cool toys behind their mother’s back - toys which she thinks might be a little unsafe for them.
She has every reason to think that, because Leo brings action figures that come to life and most of them have an unhealthy fixation on bayonets and tiny grenades.
But of course she notices and constantly bickers about that to him.
She finally gives up when she sees her children and sometimes even Percy wilting at the sight of her confiscating those toys.
Leo is deemed by everyone, including Annabeth to be the relative giving the coolest presents.
Annabeth and Leo make sure they spend at least one day a month working together. It’s an outlet for both of them and the memories they share make it too precious to stop.
And well, that’s all I can think of right now! But I honestly just love this platonic ship so much. Because I think their personalities, because they are so different may end up leading to a wonderful bond between them.
