Kinda wanna know more about Ysabel’s daughter with Aemond

i mentioned already her name is aelora - she's born innnn. ...? ill say 127 ac meaning she's approximately the same age as maelor . she has a cradle egg that hatches - in typical bolton esque fashion she names it something edgy idk i didn't think this far . name that thing skinstealer . i like to think it's born with dark scales and becomes white with time kind of like a baby horse

she grows up with an extremely strained relationship to her mom because in all honesty ysabel doesn't want a daughter . after her brother is born ysabel isn't really in any state physically to care for her children so she spends most of her days doting on her son to whatever extent she can while aelora is raised mainly by her wetnurses and whoever's hanging around the castle which makes her very independent and kind of distant emotionally. girl who stares at you with her big dead eyes etc

she's definitely 'closer' to aemond in the sense that she idolizes him pretty heavily and idealizes a lot of their relationship . the timeline is a bit different here but regardless she's young when he dies so she has a few scattered memories of a dad that cared for her and in turn she grows up wanting to be like him and wanting to emulate all the things she knows about him through stories and whatever she pieces together from herself . there's that ever present thread of medieval misogyny in asoiaf that kind of carries over everywhere and i think with aelora it's that sense of being everything her parents could want in a child but it doesn't matter because she's also a girl. scratches my chin.

after the war ... after her brother dies i think she grows up and starts to really resent ysabel. understands in concept why things are the way they are but will never quite grasp why she was put aside the way she was and how she as a mother could pick and choose which of her children to love . humm. twisted family dynamics at a ruined court etc

in my mind it would make sense for a maelor marriage for her but because dot dot dot. well. there are bumps in the road so idk (scrambles my brain) i like to think she's kind of fond of jaehaera and then viserys ii when she grows older and i'll leave it at that . this is further than ive pondered properly

GROWING UP IN HARTFORD.

the barkley family settled in hartford, connecticut when river was ten, the state in which his parents met when they both attended yale. after graduation, they lived in new york for a period of time before his father’s job with goldman sachs took the family overseas for the first ten years of river’s life. they made their move when river was still a baby, so shanghai was all river knew before they actually returned to the states. returning to live in connecticut was a bit of a culture shock, but he adjusted pretty quickly once he started getting involved in school sports and found himself particularly adept at lacrosse.

river’s grandparents were classmates of emily & richard gilmore when the four of them attended yale, and now occupy opulent homes not far from one another, and not far from where river’s parents eventually move the family into, either. river attends private school for all of the years of his american education. when he reaches high school, he is accepted to chilton, certainly on merit with his impressive grades, but likely also as a legacy: his father attended decades before.

CHILTON & YALE.

there was never any question that river was going to attend yale, the alma mater of both his parents and his grandparents. he’s a bit ambivalent about the idea himself; he doesn’t need to go to an ivy league university to do what he actually wants to do, but his parents would never settle for letting him go on to be a teacher, anyways. but nevertheless, he works hard at chilton to maintain straight a’s and continue involvement in extracurriculars. he captains the lacrosse team from the time he is a junior, acts as the new student liaison with the student government, and participates in the drama club as well as the debate club. while he isn’t quite as tirelessly devoted as some of his peers ( paris geller ), he’s certainly busy. and most of the time, he’s glad to be so consistently occupied.

river is admitted to yale in the early winter of his senior year, in response to an early decision application. thus, his admission is binding, in accordance with how his parents had planned his college admissions process to go. while at yale, he majors in economics, expected to take a job at a major firm similar to his father’s upon graduation. however, river also takes additional course work where he can in psychology and english, which he does without telling his parents, in hopes that he might actually be able to make use of it one day.
