#problematic fandoms

have you ever see a show/game/movie/book and you like it but you don’t want to get into the fandom cause you have very unpopular opinions that would basically rain hell and bite you on the ass?

that’s how I am with the tmnt fandom when I say I think leosagi is problematic now lemme explain on this

now just note I’m not in the tmnt fandom due to the problematic nature it has but I do like tmnt (my most favorite is the 2007 verison) but I am in the usagi yojimbo fandom and been trying to read the comics online and this is just my opinion cause I know I won’t change others minds I just like to express my opinions over the internet cause why not

but it basically frustrates me when I go to look up usagi content everyone is talking about shipping him with the turtles kinda gives me a ick

Especially since in the title teenage mutant ninja turtles there is teenage in the first sentence and the turtles always been told they were teenagers

and usagi is canonically said to be in his late 20s to early 30s now before you say “but 2003 usagi is a teenager” or something like now for 1 it does not say that anywhere I checked myself and it’s nowhere seen

And plus the main comics literally start as him being a adult and he acts like a adult in the adaptions I personally see 2003 usagi being a father figure or a older brother to Leo due to how they interact

now don’t think this is the only unpopular ship opinion I have I mean I shittalk about like shadowpeach in the past

so yeah basically

it’s hard to join fandoms without being attack for a opinion you have (it’s honestly personally why I don’t interact with fandoms most of the time people start to act like people in mental asylums some worse then others (COUGH COUGH GENSHIN IMPACT COUGH COUGH)

So what’s the lesson here?

don’t be a dick to people who have different opinions and if your scared to interact with the fandom due to opinions don’t if you like the franchise then be happy do what you do

Can people in problematic fandoms ADMIT they are in problematic fandoms, and stop being holier than thou to everyone else.

Like, nothing wrong with liking trash, I am a certified trash enjoyer myself, but know your place.

Dear People Who Complain About “Problematic Fandoms”

if you have such a problem with people who are made happy by fanart and being devoted to a series written for people to enjoy then just don't get involved in the fandoms or keep your opinions to yourself because I'm so tired of trying to enjoy myself and look through cute fanart or one-shots of cute things about characters that make people’s lives better and then seeing people complain and rant about “problematic” things.

and as an author, I would want people to be obsessed and feel entitled to my work. I make it for other people. If i didn't want that, i wouldn't do it.

if you think something is problematic, don’t complain about it and make people who enjoy it feel bad. just find something that isn't problematic for you. jeez.

the world would just be a happier place if people just did what made them happy and stopped forcing their opinions on people.

Wait, Stranger Things is Problematic? Please, Someone, Explain this One to Me

I confess that I feel sucker punched by this one. I've been seeing a number of posts lately that has been claiming that Stranger Things is problematic. Some of the post I found goes so far as to place it right next to Harry Potter in the problematic Fandoms catagory. So I have to ask, how is Stranger Things problematic? Please, Someone, loop Me in on this one!

I haven't actually watched Stranger Things yet. I started watching the first couple of episodes of season one back in 2020 while I was dating an emotionally Abusive Woman that I quickly got away from. However, watching those two episodes with Her kind of made Me not want to touch the series a long ass time. I'm actually in the process of starting to watch the series now, only to come across said post, and I'm waiting to hear the reasoning first before I decide to give it a watch or not.

I'm really tempted to change my layout but this is the longest I've gone without changing it.

I also want to reblog some more stuff but I also feel some guilt because they are from fandoms that have problematic creators so by reblogging that I am highlighting that fandom and potentially bringing more attention to it then before.

I have been reading wayyy too much fanfiction and now I feel numb to it all.

“Oh my god, I hate Alastor fans so much they do this all the time” Tumblr has a block function for a reason, if you don’t want to see it FUCKING BLOCK IT, it’s worse when you scroll through their blog and there’s so much hate on one character, now who looks obsessed??? All you look is obnoxious

“Oh yeah, sure, like that’s totally something he would do 🙄” ???????? Then it’s probably not something meant for you!!!!!

I canNOT stress enough how much you DO NOT need to interact with something you don’t agree with ESPECIALLY if it’s not actively hurting the fandom with LEGTIMATELY hateful/racist/sexist/homophobic ideas, and EVEN THEN, being condescending or pretending you’re better than any other fan for believing otherwise is fucking rude

Stop pooping on other fans. Yes. Youre not “shitting on someone else’s pov” you’re actively pooping on something nice that someone likes, you are squatting like a fucking dog on something a living, breathing, person-with-a-life-outside-of-fandom has said and/or made.

Block tags. Block people. It literally costs nothing to just sit the fuck down and let other people enjoy their fun and EVEN IF THEY ARE WRONG, THERE ARE BETTER WAYS TO DO SO

ITS LIKE MOST OF YALL CAN HONEST TO GOD NEVER BE FUCKING POLITE TO SOMEONE WHO HOLDS A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN YOU OR LEGITIMATELY MADE A MISTAKE.

If you’re having a problem with what you’re seeing on your dash, that’s on you and Tumblr and the posts you interact with. Whining ON FANDOM POSTS about what you’re seeing on your dash is like coming to a pickles party and getting mad that there’s no cake, now you just look obnoxious.

But coming to the pickle party and yelling ONE confused person bringing a cake is rude. Rude, obnoxious, and condescending, even worse if you’re yelling at them to go across the street to the cake party and they’re being sorry and polite about it.

Please.

Why is it that the best games, TV shows, movies, etc., (like Undertale and Steven Universe) have the worst fanbases??

Everyone is so toxic to each other when things like South Park and Don't Hug Me I'm Scared have pretty good fanbases? (I'm not in the South Park fandom but I've heard nice things. The DHMIS fandom is actually not bad at all!)
