When exactly do the HP movies mean to suggest that Hogwarts once hung students in the dungeons for detention?

Filch can't be that old.

Are we to assume Dippet was into this? 😅

Was this before or after the Slytherins took up residency down there?

Was this happening in James' time?

Was Regulus kept up at night be screaming students?

Is that how Barty got his first taste for torture? Is that how he got off?

Can you imagine how ashamed Professor Dippet would have been if he ever knew what Tom Riddle had become? I mean Voldemort was one of Dippet’s favourite students, so he may even have blamed himself for what the boy had become... Professor Slughorn blamed himself for a lot of things that he did in concerns with Voldemort, he blamed himself for telling him about horcruxes. Slughorn made up for it in The Battle of Hogwarts. But I’m really questioning Dippet, how did he feel? Did he ever find out before he died? Did he even care about what all this would do to Hagrid?
