Healthcare model evaluation for a large real estate group in North India

Case Summary

We evaluated diversification strategies for a real estate player that wanted to make a foray into healthcare given the immense growth potential of the industry, including recommendations on the appropriate business model, economics and critical success factors.

The options presented include a strong futuristic view on healthcare and allied services, including assisted living and alternative medical facilities.

Situation

The client, a large real estate company from North India, owned a 90-acre land parcel, about 60 km from Jaipur, Rajasthan. The client wanted to utilize the land to establish an appropriate healthcare facility.

Camomile was appointed to evaluate various healthcare models that could be applicable and develop a comprehensive framework to recommend the most appropriate options.

Intervention

Camomile healthcare’s consultants studied the key factors that would influence the decision on the choice of facility market, compliance, operational requirements and financing.  

We also looked at best in class examples (Indian & international) of the various models considered for the project, including critical success factors and typical project economics

Impact

Camomile presented a comprehensive framework comparing multiple healthcare models based on key parameters. We also recommended the most suitable model for the land parcel covering land area utilization, facility configuration, capital expenditure and operations design. Victorian Window Lit Portrait - Project Evaluation

1) What was the project theme and what did you think of it?

The theme of this project was “victorian window lit portraits”. We explored victorian photographs where the photographers used window light as their only light source in photographs. I really liked this project as it was really fun to do, it was also a good challenge creatively trying to find victorian clothing and use window light as our only light source.

2) What part of the project did you enjoy the most/found the most interesting? 

I found shooting the image the most interesting as it was interesting to figure out how to position the model to get the same lighting as my inspiration image. I also enjoyed trying to style my model in order to get her to look similar to a women in the victorian era.

3) What new techniques have you experienced?

I learned how to produce a well lit image using only window light, as well as including a reflector in a shoot.

4) What technique would you like to develop further?

I would like to develop my optimisation skills further, as the technique was different from what I was used to as we were exploring adding textures to our image to make it look more victorian.

5) What photographers did you research throughout the project?

During this project I never really looked at photographers, I more focused my research on the techniques and equipment that photographers used back in this era. This was to give me a better idea of how to replicate the images.

6) How have they influenced your photographs?

Researching this gave me a better understanding of what my final image had to look like.

7) What technique did you enjoy the most?

I found it interesting that I was able to produce images that were similarly lit to my studio portraits, however doing so with just the available window light.

8) What do you feel is the most successful part of your project and why?

I feel this whole project was successful as I am really happy with my final image and feel I successfully replicated an old victorian portrait, which also meets the requirements of the brief.

9) Did you encounter any problems in your project?

I did not encounter any problems in the duration of this project.

10) What habits of mind did you use throughout this project?

Imaginative - Playing with possibilities. Stying the model, etc. until I was happy that she looked the part.

Inquisitive - Exploring and investigating. To produce even lighting I had to continuously explore and try out different positioning of both the model and reflector.

11) What would you do differently given the chance to complete the project again?

I wouldn't really do anything differently, except experiment more with the styling of the model and even try styling and shooting a male model.

12) Discuss any technical issues with your final images?

I don't think my final image has any technical issues.

13) If you were asked to do a project using this technique what would you do? What new ideas do you have? 

I feel if I were to do this project again I would try to shoot different photographs, like using a different and more difficult to recreate inspiration image. I would also like to try this project with a male model as I am used to just shooting female models, so feel like this would be really interesting to try.

Exploring Light Travel / Project Evaluation

•At the very start of this project we learned that David Brewster was one of the first photographers to make pinhole photographs. I discovered this when I was researching for our research tasks in the beginning when first learning about the background of photography.

•As my work progressed and developed I believe I thought of more creative ideas, these ideas also further challenged me. My idea of photography also changed as I always looked at photography as an art, however after learning how much science is behind it my idea has changed.

•In the beginning of this project we experimented with pinhole photography, even making our own pinhole cameras to experiment with. We also experimented with depth of field, shutter speed and focal lengths. We done this by doing different tasks and taking various different photos to show how each of these affected an image. One example of our experiments was for showing different shutter speeds and how using the correct shutter speed freezes the movement in the image or shows the movement. We were tasked to shoot 5 images, one image at 1/500, then 1/250, 1/60, 1/15 and 1/5. 

•While doing this project I took lots of photos, if I was unhappy with the images then I would go out and reshoot them until I was happy and understood the task. This helped me to learn where I was going wrong and develop my work more.

•I think my investigation has got more sophisticated, this is because I know after doing these tasks what is expected from me. I know now how to tackle the tasks correctly and meet the standard on each of them.

• Habits of Mind excised the most: Striving for Accuracy, Remaining Open to Continuous Learning and Questioning and Problem Posing.

•I enjoyed doing this project as I knew coming into the course that it was important to know the history and background of photography. It was also refreshing to go back to basics and relearn information that I had learned before, however had forgotten. 

•I believe I have explored this project in depth as I now have a deeper understanding of the topics and all the different camera controls. I also know now how to use each one to create my desired image.

•If I had more time I would have liked to have experimented further with pinhole photography. I would like to do this as at the time I was unsure of it, but now I feel more confident with how it works and the outcome that I would want to achieve. 

•I hope the viewers will view my research and see that I hold good knowledge of photography and that I am taking this knowledge and applying it to my images.

Inspired By Art / Project Evaluation

•During this project I researched 2 different artists for my recreating still life project, one artist being David Cahill and the other was Donald MacDonald. I came across both artists on Pinterest, this ultimately led me to their websites where I found the images that I decided to recreate. I learned by researching David Cahill that his work is very unusual, this unusual feel is created by the items in his work and how they are positioned. His work also has a very nostalgic vibe. When researching the work of Donald MacDonald, I realised his work is drastically different from Cahill’s. MacDonalds work is more muted in his colour palette and are more simplistic. From researching these artists, I explored more with lighting and angles. I then researched Jean Baptiste Greuze in order to recreate her painting “June Fille Due De Dos”. I used this image as my inspiration for my recreation of a dutch masters painting, researching Grueze lead me to experiment even further with lighting.

•As my work has developed, I found that I have became less critical and stopped over-analysing my work as I used to believe my work had to look a certain way. However since doing the Inspired by Art section of this  course I realised that I can be more expressive and experiment more. I became aware as well that even when recreating a photo, I would always add my own twist and my own ideas were also visible.

•During this block I experimented with various lighting sources, one of the lighting sources that I enjoyed working with the most was the gel lighting. I used coloured gels when I was attempting to recreate a portrait, using gels at first was very trial and error as it was not working particularly well at first, however once I was more comfortable using them I believe I created a really nice image.

•To refine my work I started taking more images than usual, as well as taking photos from different angles and changing smaller things rather than making drastic changes. I changed small things such as the angle of lighting, aperture, how close the light source was to my subject etc. I changed minor things because I felt minor changes still majorly changed the image. 

•My investigation changed in that instead of just looking for a painting and its name, I looked more in depth to the artist/photographer and would look more into when the painting/image was made, what the artist used to create it etc. I feel in doing this it helped me to recreate the image better and create an overall better outcome. 

• Habits Of Mind I’ve exercised the most: Persisting, Taking Responsible Risks and Thinking Flexibly. I used the persisting habits of mind most as I was persistent to get the outcome that I wanted and didn’t stop until I did.

•My final outcome for this project was to have high quality images that looked professional that still showed my creativity and skill through them. I am not overly pleased with the outcome, however I do believe I met my desired outcome. I presented my project to my Tumblr blog, my social medias and also the online submission areas.

•I was hoping to create images that looked like the images I was recreating, however I was also hoping to show my own ideas and creativity through my images. I believe this worked.

•Looking back I believe I successfully explored the theme, however while shooting the images I was unsure of what look and style I was trying to achieve.

•If I had more time I would’ve liked to experiment with the gels more as I liked the outcome of my image using them.

•My work is personal because even with the recreations, it was my take on the image and not an exact remake.. I tried to always a bit of myself in my images and not just replicate the artist/photographers work.

•I hope the viewers understand the idea from the artist/photographers work , but also my own.

Off the beaten track

Evaluation

The location we chose for the off the beaten track is “The New Forest”. It is a place I never had the chance to visit before but I have always heard about and I always been intrigued by. It’s a wonderful place and one of the best aspects that makes it unique Is the variety of landscapes and areas you can find. We stuck with a clear idea from the beginning, which was to make postcards.

Since we have different styles, I was not sure about how the cards would later turn out together but In my opinion, all work well together and they respect the goal and the message we wanted to communicate.

Making postcards is an experience never done and completely new to me. They are perfect for tourists, child and passionate people eager to come back to that place remembering beautiful memories. It was nice to interview the people we met and then be able to tell their thoughts through illustrations, photographs and videos.

I took care of recording Video sounds and I had fun doing the illustrations, trying new styles and working digitally. Overall I believe we worked well as a team, we followed a respective plan and we all worked equally.

I’m happy about how the postcards look like, they strongly communicate the message we wanted to share to the audience. In the end, they turned up how we expected them to be from the beginning. I found this project helpful. It served as a teaching and a way to try and do different things from how I work regularly. I had the chance to visit a beautiful place and I improved my skills in digital.

Daniel Beltrá captures the profound beauty and vulnerability of the natural world in his photographs of natural landscapes and wildlife. Primarily a landscape photographer, Beltrá combines painterly abstraction with the haunting details of an earthly paradise in peril.
