Madness this Way Comes
I'm obsessed with the its/it's error, but a fresh hell has been visited upon me recently. I'm seeing a lot of the use of the apostrophe with the s when in no way is possession being shown.
Examples I've seen in just the past 12 hours: kid's for kids, company's for companies.
Why is this happening??? What part of the brain would ever think this is correct? I can understand the its/it's error; it's often sloppy proofreading. But this???

Sigh. Reading through my distance ed course forums, I am so annoyed by the misuse of their/they're/there. . . Seriously, you went through university and teacher's college and don't know the difference yet?
Main culprit is a recent teacher's college graduate. Makes me concerned about the quality of secondary AND post-secondary education.
Maybe it's an auto-correct problem, but seriously: Be professional. Proofread.

Sounds like you know what exactly you are looking for, which a turn on as i am 36 and tired of games YOU girls play! ;) (I don't think you did read my profile, as I mention proofreading no less than 3 times and my hatred of emoticons at least twice. Furthermore, "tired of the games YOU girls play" infuriates me so much it makes me want to assault strangers) Refreshing to see someone who actually lives near me that i think i would enjoy a conversation over a few drinks. (I'm willing to give the grammar mistake the benefit of the doubt as a typo, but an application essay really should be edited and proofread. Also, I'm curious as to how this person decided which groups to list; the choice seems pretty telling about this student's environment. Finally, it would be helpful not to make a Captain Obvious statement the main argument of your essay for a scholarship meant to show your critical thinking skills.)
