Pros of having a brain that makes very fast associations: Good comebacks and jokes
Cons of having a brain that makes very fast associations: That story about how you broke your foot reminded me of a fun fact about bats
I swear I am happy
For the childhood I was given
I’m actually pleasantly surprised with the happiness I have created for myself
To be fair, I wasn’t even sure such happiness and contentness existed
But sometimes
In the middle of the day or late at night
I think about that little girl who lived in shades of black and gray
And I wish she would’ve known where she was headed
That could’ve made the wait easier
The Pros and Cons of Tulpamancy
This was inspired by a Reddit post I saw a bit ago. Now, these pros and cons will be subjective on some level since, well, Tulpamancy is subjective and every experience is fundamentally different because every human brain is fundamentally different. If you’d like to see any pros and/or cons added, feel free to send an ask or post a comment!
Now onto the list:
Pros:
Loneliness is easier to combat.
Being alone becomes permanently optional.
You get a new friend that you can talk to at any time and any place.
You can go on mental adventures with this friend.
That friend can look into all your memories and know you better than any physical person can.
You can get a second opinion on something you’re not so sure about.
Practicing Tulpamancy can include meditation, which is good for you.
You get to train your visualization skills and be able to visualize better.
Free hugs at any time.
You always have someone to vent to if the going’s rough.
You can leave front and relax for a while while your friend gets to do stuff in the real world.
Your friend can be an excuse to draw or write to either solidify their form and/or personality.
You can train imposition, so that your friend can show up and you can experience them as if they physically do exist.
You have someone to call you out if you’re making a fool out of yourself.
You can try new things with your friend and see their reaction and how it differs from yours.
Your friend can encourage you to make new friends and socialize more.
Your friend can motivate you to do chores.
Your friend can convince you to try new and daring things.
Your friend can tell you “Good job!” whenever you finish doing something.
Your friend can give you advice whenever you need.
Your friend can remind you of important things.
Your friend can act like an internal alarm clock, which can be surprisingly accurate in some systems.
Your friend can look into your own emotions and empathize better than anyone outside your system.
When your tulpa is happy, you can feel the happiness radiating from them.
If you’re scared, your tulpa can comfort you and be at your side.
You have a new reading buddy that can voice specific characters with you.
Cons:
Things might not work out perfectly with your tulpa (which is usually very unlikely as long as you’re not treating them poorly).
If you have an argument that can’t come to an agreement, walking away is harder within a system than with physical people.
Privacy is less frequent (though you could always ask your tulpa to leave you be).
There is usually a lot of dedication and grit to making a tulpa.
Developing a tulpa could take weeks, to months, to potentially years.
You may not be proficient in the things you want to be (vocality, imposition, switching, etc).
If your tulpa feels bad, their emotional bleed might make you feel bad, too.
If your tulpa wants to learn switching/possession, you may have to divide your time between you and your tulpa in terms of time in front.
Your tulpa may want to date or be friends with someone you’re not too wild about.
Your tulpa may deviate into something you don’t like (but you can usually ask them about it and come to a compromise).
