My favorite category error of the day.
The author confuses internal, intra-communal outreach with external proselytism. These are not the same.
Chabad encourages gentiles to follow the Noahide laws without inviting them to convert. That is not proselytism.
"Outreach Judaism" is very observant Jews reaching out to non-observant Jews. That's intrafaith engagement, not missionary proselytism.
The Hasmoneans imposed conversions during a brief period of theocratic rule. This is an outlier, not a norm...and Temple Judaism was not Rabbinical Judaism.
Judaism does not recruit outsiders. It allows conversion, but does not ever pursue it.
Will someone please get the author a dictionary and Simon Schama's The Story of the Jews for their birthday?
Introducing someone to your religion when they are at the darkest and lowest point in their life is inherently coercive and I’m never going to change my mind on that. It is a cult tactic to find people who are struggling and try to convert them, and the Christian church doing it instead of Scientology or something does not make that practice any less fucked up. Christianity can be a normal and healthy part of someone’s life, but if you have to introduce it to them in a coercive and predatory way, it’s probably not going to be that.
no the only purpose of the ad feature is the bee script, my immortal, and hobbit love. dont proselytize. 🤨
“Can I pray for you?” Or “Will you pray with me?”
This is less common among strangers, and typically done by someone who is genuinely well meaning, possibly not very well grounded in reality, but nonetheless!!! It’s intrusive. And inappropriate. But it’s worded in such a way where you may feel like an asshole for refusing.
So instead, just tell them:
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.” —Matthew 6:5
Because praying, like religion in general, is a private choice that no one should be pressured into.

Here Comes THE TICKLE MONSTER
Out here, spokesperson to our cause. 🙏
There's something deeply amusing about people using Tumblr, a site full of queers, pagans, monster fuckers, and freaks, to spread their religion. Like sir, many of us are former Christians or downright despise the religion for the trauma it induces. Do not come here with that clownery. You can sit in the back and be quiet but don't presume you have influence here.
hey guys i caught up on red valley finally
